Nauticam NA-7D, Dome Port and Inon Z-240

  1. I've edited my previous post to tone it down a bit as it went a bit further than I had intended.

I guess you have to look on the bright side - at least they didn't name it the Apocalypse - rebreather divers will understand what I am referring to.

Hopefully things will be sorted out fairly quickly.

  2. Hi,

May I ask an off-topic question here. My current optical cable from is named "INON Optical D cable" and i found that there is no connector on one side. Are there any adaptors which can connect my INON optical D cable to the nauticam housing?

  3. Hi all,

Yes, this is an issue, and yes, we should have caught it earlier. My apologies to Kiril and anyone else whom this has inconvenienced.

A couple of things I want to mention though:

    - I do understand that people are looking for "signs" about this new housing line to see whether they should have "confidence" in the brand or not. I get that, and when we make a mistake, we need to own up to it, and we are doing that.

    - Keep in mind that this is one in thousands of compatibility combinations we are dealing with. I'm sure there are other issues out there that we will find as time goes on, but this is not limited to Nauticam. We will stand behind this brand.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  4. The port charts are currently being updated to reflect a recommendation for #21520 Extension Ring 20 with the 8.5" Acrylic Dome Port for Tokina 10-17 on both Nikon and Canon mounts. This is not in response to this issue, but is as a result of field testing indicating much sharper corners. It just so happens to solve this issue as well.

    Hi Ryan,

could you share (if you have) some test pictures from FE 8,5" Acrylic dome and compact 4" Zen DP-100.

Now I'm choosing between them. I know about their features but can't find any real photos created using this FE-ports.

I can't help with the 8.5" Acrylic dome but I got my Nauticam 7D underwater for the first time yesterday and used the 10-17 with 4" Zen dome, here's some of my shots:

  6. Oh come on Gudge, you shouldn't tease us like that. ;) How dig the rig feel in the water? Any issues setting it up? Find anything you didn't expect?

Those shots look great by the way. Congrats partner. :o

The rig feels great in the water, chunkier and a tad heavier than the Subals I've used previously but the ergonomics are superb. The piano keys for the buttons on the left rear side of the camera rock! I even had a very quick shot at video and found that I could reach all the controls required without taking my hands off the handles. The Nauticam magnifying viewfinder is great, comparing it side by side with the Subal GS180 viewfinder on my wife's Subal 50D housing (my old rig) the Nauticam is like an Imax theatre while the Subal is a small suburban theatre. No real surprises or problems in setting it up other than I didn't have the correct terminations on my fibre optic cords to connect them to the housing. A small hole drilled in the fibre optic port caps solved the problem while I wait for the correct item to arrive. After I've had a few more dives with it over easter I'll do a comparison of the Nauticam 7D versus the Aquatica 7D housing I was loaned by Scubapix while waiting for the Nauticam to arrive.

    Did you use extension ring?
My Zen dome is a Subal mount and I used a Subal 15mm extension ring. When I use a 1.4X teleconverter with the 10-17 I use a Subal 33mm extension ring.
