CS5 - Context Aware Fill

  1. Hi all,

"Adobe will release the next major version of its Creative Suite collection of applications for print, Web, and video creative pros on April 12. The company announced plans to take the wraps of Adobe Creative Suite 5 yesterday in order to give its customers a chance to register for the online launch event.

That event will be held at 8 a.m. Pacific Time on April 12 via Adobe TV. You can register with Adobe to watch the live event, where the company says it will unveil top new features for the applications that make up CS5, including Photoshop. The registration page also has sneak preview videos of some of the new applications.

Adobe CS5 will be the first major overhaul to the company’s suite of creative tools since the September 2008 release of Adobe CS4. That suite contained 13 products including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; 14 integrated technologies like Bridge and Version Cue; and seven services like Acrobat.com."

2010 could be an expensive year on software!!!

  2. Starting to get harder to justify an upgrade, particularly for straight photographers who mostly use PS4 now for edits not possible with Aperture or Lightroom. I probably could easily have stayed with PS3.

Do you know of any 'must have' features in the new version of PS?

I've heard a rumor that the HDR processing is much, much improved ... but I'm done with buying photoshop ... I'll stick with CS4 for a while ...

  4. I'm still using CS3, but if there are some worthwhile new features added to CS5, I might be tempted to upgrade.

Software, hardware etc etc, the list seems to go on every year!! :)

Any Idea what the CS5 will bring us?

  6. As I read it the April 12th date is the official announcement of what will be in CS5. Actual release is not defined. Rumors go from April to Oct. or Nov. So they keep Lightroom in Beta for 12 months + and release a whole new suite of complex software with no public Beta? I'm confused.

Maybe a little cynical, but I would not be surprised if LR is kept in beta while Adobe waits to see what Apple does with Aperture. Seems they did this at the time with Aperture 2, and now again with Aperture 3, quickly adding an incomplete video option to the latest beta release for example.

  8. I must say that "Content aware" looks very intriguing. As I am running CS3 I think it may be worth an upgrade. Mods have posted more info: Here

That - for backscatter removal - alone is worth the price of upgrade IMHO!

    You convinced me!

That alone is enough for a upgrade for me a more and more im working with panoramics and images that manual cleaning take forever. Im running CS3 now but looks like CS5 and LR3 will be on the order list once i they come out and I get back to work.

  13. You convinced me!

Just when I think I am out, they drag me back in :)

  14. As I am in the industry I am excited about this new version of CS5 and the features that will in all the new design programs.

But as a photographer my concern is that how do we know whats real or not. Images will become cleaner and it will harder to pick a photo or a photoshop image. This will no doult cause extra pressure on judging nature imagery competitions. Especially if these new features make images appear seamless in an instant. Anyway we will see...

  15. CS5 already?!? i swear CS4 only came out 6 months ago.. :)

    Hmm, i am still on CS2 :)

Argh.. net slow today, want to watch the demo.. can't

  16. Heck of an impressive demo.

Am sure it was carefully selected but even then it looks extremely promising.

I was discussing this very subject today in my office with our Art Director. How far should one go to clean up images? Some European magazines print images that are so cleaned up and sharpened that they have a stylized-look of their own. Should we follow suit or does it mislead our readers? We want dramatic pictures but we don't want exhibition art. (That's another subject!) We want to keep the underwater look of our images.

This new tool will be very good for removing the offending diver's intruding fin or extending an area of water to allow for a mast-head for example but of course we can go further and people will tend to go as far as they can. I've just spent hours removing the sand that was inadvertently kicked by a passing diver over a mantis shrimp I had cornered out in the open. I used the cloning and healing tools as well a a little bit of noise (dirt & scratches) reduction where I could. I bet it will save me a lot of time in recreating what it looked like moments before my 'friend' passed by.

  18. Great, thanks to Eric, I now think I need this upgrade. :o

  19. I'm sure many here will be hate the look of this. There's an expression in Yorkshire (and probably elsewhere) that you can't polish a turd. However it looks like some of turdy pictures will be getting dug out for a bit of a polish when CS5 hits the shops.

However on the downside is that I imagine Adobe have just made removing a watermark from a photo a two minute job. Not good.
