I am in the process of putting together a new system. Camera - d700 Housing - Either Nexus or Nauticam. Strobes - 2 Sea & Sea 110a
My question is:- Is it better to have the fibre optic cords and use the internal flash system or is it better to use syc cords without the need to use the internal flash? Was wondering if using the internal flash would cause any backscatter?
Anybody out there who knows or has had experience with both - please advise
Thanks - Deb
Greetings,
I am in the process of putting together a new system.

This comes up from time to time - a general overview is here
I have used both, and each has some things I like/don't like, but I have my older Sea & Seas with Fiber Optic and I am sure my next rig will be fiber optic/fiber optic and regular if it is possible for the options.
The internal Flash should not be an issue, the housings you are looking at will be blocking the internal flash I would assume (pretty sure of that, jst did not go back and double check to make sure) and for other cameras (more P&S) people usually block the internal flash with Velcro/Tape.
I'm using fiber optics with Nexus D300 & SS YS110/YS27. Very happy with operation & reliability of fiber. Easier to set up, fewer o-rings to maintain & no electronics. FO is limited in continuous shooting mode & auto bracketing since on-board flash doesn't recycle fast enough. However these functions work with sync cords. I set flash to manual & power to 1/100. Minimal drain on camera battery. No back scatter issues.
Hi,
Thanks to all for this information. Will sit and read all the articles.
