Thanks John, glad you are enjoying, thanks for keeping up with it.
For today we have one of the less exotic species around here but with a patient specimen it can be photographed it an interesting way.

Usually that photo is taken with a horizontal orientation. It looks different vertical and I like the extra negative space.
Thanks for posting!
Mike I'm loving this thread keep it going pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaase.
Last time I was in Manado / Lembeh my wife (who's scared witless of snakes) asked my diveguide if there were any snakes around
"Yeh but you won't see any around here because they make good eating" was his reply
Nige Wade
Nige, ya, most things can be on the menu around here
This cute little blenny has made a home from an old bottle, one of the many interesting ways that the critters of Lembeh utilize rubbish as an asset to them

How did you get a 1/250 sybc speed? My D90 only syncs at 1/200 max.
Did you use the FP mode?
Cheers
Sean
really? i don't know! haha.. i use 250 all the time. if i go to 320 i get a black line at the bottom but on 250 its fine. When you say you can't synch higher, it won't actually go past 200 or you get the black line? What is FP mode?

If I have either;
The onboard flash up
OR
A strobe connected
The maximum shutter speed I can set is 1/200.
FP mode is all to do with the flash firing and quenching at a speed that is faster than the rated sync speed, or something like that.
Might have to investigate using it (I never have)
I don't use FP as far as i know.. first i have heard of it.
I have an Aquatica housing and old YS120 strobes, no TTL system. Whereas your Ike system with new strobes might be the difference as its TTL? Ike strobe seem to work differently, i had to tape my hotshoe when i used DS125 strobes. if you try putting some tape on the hotshoe or a small piece of plastic so that only the middle pin is connected that might fix it. Worth testing out on land to see. When i look at the properties for my photos it says "strobe not fired" does yours say the same or does yours say strobe fired?

I'll have to get back to you on that "Strobe not fired". Worth investigating though, thanks

Hello!
FP mode is a nikon way to light the whole frame when using high speed. It does it firing the strobe several times while the curtains are running so there is always an strobe fire per part of the frame and, as a result, there are no dark bands. AFAIK it can only be done with nikon strobes SB800 etc...
If you cover all the pins except ground and trigger, the camera "does not know" there is a strobe and lets you shoot above the max sync speed and you start getting the dark band (check the clam shot and you will see on the right border part there is a dark band top to bottom)...
HI David, interesting on the clam shot, i don't see it on any others. Usually the banding you would see would be larger from my experience, very noticeable at 320.
I also had to cover the pins when i used Ikelite strobes as i mentioned above, have not had to do that with my Sea and Seas.

I am reading this sitting in my cube, over 800 miles from the nearest ocean. If you are looking for sympathy for not diving enough, keep searching...
The cube job pays for the diving vacations well enough but living next to good diving would sure be nice.
Thanks for all the pics you have been sharing with this thread.
Hi Dave
Nah, not looking for sympathy, rather calling myself pathetic instead
Glad you are enjoying the thread
Love the snake eel shot. Great perspective!

Hey Mike, I love the lighting on the nudi! Keep the great photo's coming!

Mike - Thanks for sharing the "daily" photos. And I especially love that they are from the D90 setup.
Keep them coming.
Also...can you share how you do the hand on the strobe for the lighting effects? Any particular way you are creating this effect?
