  1. So now the flip device in my Bluefin only ever holds the flip macro, which works great for CU of macro subjects...

    Yep, that's a great idea...best use for the flip-thing IMHO. :D

Sure, but then it only works with the flat port, so you have to think like a photographer: am I going to shoot wide-angle or macro this dive?

True. Although you can still shoot fairly wide with the flat port - but not with the stunning edge-to-edge clarity of the Fathom 90 dome.

A few times I have rigged for macro and ended up shooting turtles or Mola Mola instead.

Yes...I was speaking in general terms. It will work with some housing/lens/port combinations but not others. I recall that it worked with my old Gates/110 degree lens but not with another system. Besides...with many domes you can just leave the diopter on all the time and end up focussing on a closer "virtual image" plane. But that's still a compromise...

As I mentioned in another post about the new GH2 VidDSLR I think the decision making process (wide angle or macro) is about to get a lot easier for us if other manufacturers adopt Panasonic's new 1:1 sensor crop mode....where the 1920x1080 central region of the megapixel sensor can be selected with a button...instant high quality tele or macro even with a super-wide lens...and no scaling artefacts.
