  1. Stew your truly a retard!

How do you know that Marcus's leg was not close to the bait and the shark mistook it for bait, just like the incident with Jim??!!

    Mike

Well if that was the case then Jim was not doing his job in keeping his guest well away from the bait.

    Enough said.

  2. Stew your truly a retard!

Firstly, I do not think that I am retarded, I have very good qualifications that have seen me through life to where I am now. I also think it is quite belittling to use the word " retard " in a way such as you have on here. There are many people with learning difficulties that would be hurt to think that someone on a civilised forum was using the word in such a loose way. Please refrain from using words like this in the future.

If this was the case then Jim certainly was not doing his job and my point is very valid.

You should just out of the water if that is your view of shark behavior!

And you say that I am a retard, please read things prior to hitting the post button. Otherwise you might make yourself look a little bit silly.

  3. Feck me, you lot are acting like children. I would expect this on YD (a UK dive forum).

I would be more than happy to go on either trip, I just have problems with getting a US visa.

And, SLP, this is uncalled for....

And to forget to tip you cheap wanker!

I personally dispise the fact that a 15% tip is expected. It may well be part of the culture in the states, but, for me certainly, a tip is for good service, not ordinary service. On a $3000 trip, there is no way on earth I would be handing over $450, even for exceptional service. If the staff need the tips to survive, then the employer is not paying them enough. Tips are a bonus, not something to be expected from everybody that turns up.

And if I were on one of these trips, there would be myself and SWMBO, so a $900 tip? That's a fair few days diving in the Philippines for us.

  4. Funny...that's how all this got started....from a guy in the UK.

I never realized you folks from the UK took the word wanker so literally...my bad! And I was only joking and it was not directed towards Stew at the time...just poor tippers globally.

Remember, divemasters have bills to pay and count on tips to have a decent standard of living and if you feel you can't fork over 15% with excellent service then your doing them an injustice.

    Peace!

  5. Let's not start a debate about tips in this thread. If you want to debate tipping, please use this thread, which has 189 posts in it (so far).

  6. This forum is an international site and not your local bar, so please be aware that your usage of certain culture's words may have different connotations and interpreted differently, especially when coming from the internet. If you can't get a point across without insulting someone, maybe you should not hit that Add Reply button.

The same could be said about egos. I suggest people check their egos at the door before getting onto forums, it does help with clarity.

This thread has gone way off hilt from the original intent of comparing 2 (out of at least 7) obviously popular operators which do the Bahamas shark diving trips. It's fine to have an opinion about your favorite/hated ops, but to revel in the misfortunes of others so you can prove a (invalid) point can be misconstrued as insensitive, especially considering how many friends and clients Jim has on this forum.

As Eric has requested, please keep on topic and try not to convolute a topic with even more contentious but unrelated issues.

  7. An excellent suggestion by Giles the supermodel!

If the original idea of this thread is to give divers more information about each boat and the pros and cons each has, then a good idea would be to list the safety guidelines laid down by each operator in detail; from the safety briefing to the actual diving itself.

This way, people researching the trip will have a better idea of how each operator works with the sharks. Neither websites are detailed in their shortcomings, as expected... so why not write about them instead of getting into debate of whose choice is better?

So help your fellow divers decide and write in detail about your experiences on the boats. And (this is for Cor) let "democracy" decide which is better! :P

Why I avoid it like the plague...
