Recommend a super macro for TG6?

  1. Classic motion blur with flash added in.  The flash exposure is sharp and the fainter trail  is motion blur from the long shutter speed.  Your ambient light must be relatively bright to have exposure at f13 .

The way to deal with this is to set the camera up so that the contribution from ambient light is negligible.  First thing is to set the exposure compensation (for ambient light) to -2 EV.   Second if under your lighting conditions you are getting ambient exposure at f13, stop down to f18 and turn your external flash up to compensate.  You could take an ambient shot and review it before taking your main shot checking that the image is mostly black .  This of course drives you to  a black background.

The TG-6 also allows you to set a minimum shutter speed with flash but only works in auto-ISO and min ISO has to be ISO400.  I'd much prefer to be able to use ISO100 if I could get away with it.  Because the min shutter speed function is hidden away in the menus you might want to save the settings for that in one of the custom mode shortcut positions.  Which flash mode did you use?

  2. EXIF says 'Flash, compulsory'. The Inon was set to 100% with the diffuser on.

  3. @TimGiI love shooting shrimp. They're much more challenging than nudis and I find their behaviour fascinating. Trying to shoot video with the TG6 on AF is nigh on impossible though!

  4. @ChrisRossiI was probably in 12m so there was quite a bit of ambient light.

I would suggest experimenting in a some what dark room with each of the flash modes to see what minimum shutter speed the camera selects in each of the flash modes at wide and full zoom.  You don't want slow sync, but be interested to see the difference between fill-in and manual as to what minimum shutter speed it will set.  This is a fairly basic function for a camera to stop it from using crazy low shutter speeds when shooting at night with flash.  I recall seeing that the minimum shutter speed in fill being 1/30 and also that someone reported that this increased to 1/100 at full zoom.

It may also vary depending on mode - are you in Av?  Microscope mode may impose additional limitations and Super macro AF might be better?
