  1. You've should have seen the tour operator buzing around them like mosquito in a swamp before they passed the regulation. since the whale are in a highly touristic area with mucho traffic it mades senses, the trick is to shut down the engine and drift, then if Mr. Beluga wants to play with you so be it, since you did'nt break any law, and most important the animal made the decision to interact with you and not the oposite. No guideline and you'll have bozos chopping them off with their outboard propeller. You know Peter, we always end up paying for the jerks wether top side or under. :)

  2. But with 1/2 press this is not a factor nor is it with continuous.

True... but then you chew your battery up really fast keeping the VR gyros running and the stabilization element in motion. And then you end up having to stay in a hotel room for $140 a night rather than camping on the side of the road, as you had planned, so that you can charge your batteries again after exhausting them all in a day of shooting white-breasted sea eagles :)

Then you kick yourself for leaving the heavy inverter at home, as you could have run the charger in the 4WD.

(The above sums up my Wednesday of this week just past :D )

Well that's everywhere in the world where the whales are. All you need is one zealous skipper who wants to be "the one" who gets the best encounters. One year, we had orca feeding on seals and dolphins, so the boats around dropped everyone in the water snorkelling. I was already in the water with scuba when the orcas came. But they moved off after killing a dolphin and eating a bit of it. Then the 7 boats followed them but to the side giving them plenty of room. But of course 1 idjut has to buzz them like a fly to ^&*( and spook them off. One thing I learned about whales, if they want to avoid you, they will! 6 years of following humpbacks in Africa have showed me it's their show.

Viz'Art tell me about jerks. My charter to Australia just fell through cos a certain big name photographer broke the rules and the charter company got fined (after he leaves the country of course). Now the marine parks are making it difficult to get permits and the companies don't even want to do it anymore.
