Need a new monitor for stills editing
One word - OLED. There is a new crop of monitors released/soon to be released that will well fit into your budget. And boy, those can easily do 95% Adobe RGB, some claiming even more. Apart from monitors you can also look at LG TV C series in 42 inch size. C4 is about to be released soon. I am personally sporting C2 with a PC and the thing is amazing. Below is a list of latest releases monitor wise (from DisplayNinja): https://www.displayninja.com/best-oled-monitor/ Panel Monitor Screen HDR USB-C / KVM Other Release Date, Price 31.5” 4K 240Hz QD-OLED Dell Alienware AW3225QF 1700R, Glossy Dolby Vision, 1000-nits No eARC, 3-year warranty January 11, $1200 ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM Glossy Dolby Vision, 1000-nits Yes – Q1 2024 HP Omen Transcend 32 Glossy Dolby Vision, 1000-nits Yes (140W) HyperX Audio Q1 2024 Samsung OLED G80SD Matte 1000-nits No Tizen Smart OS – Gigabyte Aorus FO32U2P Glossy 1000-nits No DP 2.1 UHBR20 H1 2024 Gigabyte Aorus FO32U2 Glossy 1000-nits No – — MSI MPG321URX Glossy 1000-nits Yes (90W) – February, $1200 MSI MEG321URX Glossy 1000-nits Yes (90W) RGB / AI Features N/A MSI MAG321UPX Glossy 1000-nits No – N/A 31.5” 4K 240Hz (1080p 480Hz) W-OLED, RGWB ASUS PG32UCDP Matte 1300-nits Yes ELMB August / September 2024 LG 32GS95UE Matte 1300-nits No Pixel Sound August / September 2024

Snoot with a diaphragm for a Retra flash
This looks absolutely genius, well done!

Testing/Comparing new generation strobes - OneUW, Retra Pro, Ikelite DS230, Supe D-Pro (Marilux Apollo III)
This is some great testing, thanks!! Any chance you could add something like Inon Z240 ? 😉 Or Weefine WFS07..... You could look into 3rd party LED triggers - I had a few random crappy, half broken cables, that would never trigger with Nauticam (or rarely, depending on how I bend them). Changed to Turtle now, and lo and behold, even those cables suddenly work fine. But yeah, on the other side, one would expect that strobe should rather work out of the box, especially with quite a popular housing/LED trigger brand.

OM-1 MkII announced
Yeah seems its the same sensor...och well, gotta wait till v3 to stop scaring the fishies with shutter noise 😉
-
OM-1 MkII announced
This sounds very promising indeed, like they literally re-used v1 body. Guess we will have to see how AF compares between v1 and v2. I am also curious whether any changes were made to the electronic shutter - current limit seems to be 1/100 when synced with strobe.
-
OM-1 MkII announced
Now that is rather fast. Let's now pray to the housing gods and hope the new body still fits....would be a real shame otherwise. Dimensions/weight so far are listed as exactly the same, so could be perhaps a good sign, that only changes were made under the hood. Also given how little has changed maybe OM will bring at least some of the changes, like upgraded autofocus and new detection modes to the original OM1 via firmware one day... there hasn't been any updates since the 1.5 version quite a while ago. 2399 Euro on DE website, don't see any mention about extra battery or 5 year warranty like it was with original OM1, only deal seems to be 300 Euro off any lens bought with OM1 II.

attach your dive computer to your camera?
Short of some 3d printed mounts (like for example one shown by @CaolIla below, the one with compass ), just get a bungee mount for your chosen computer then attach to an arm. No different than attaching to an arm 😆. And with bungees you can about to attach it literally anywhere.

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
Just had a look, 2m is doable, more unfortunately not, as its cutting into my last-resort-backup cable reserve 😉 Might be able to post next week, just cover the postage and we are good.

Information on the upcoming strobes
Yeah, been watching that one for a while. Definitely comes very close. Just to be picky, I would loose the lights, up the power and add 4900K diffusers, and voila! Have not been able to find any real life reviews though, only shop ones. Any Pixels out there having it ?

There you go. List pulled using comparison engines like Geizhals and Idealo. Note that prices were actually lower in some cases in last weeks. However according to industry rumors NAND prices might see 20-50% price hike this year, hence it could be prices are slowly rising. List is by no means exhaustive nor takes into account any periodic deals that are often present on SSD market. Reference Samsung T7 4TB, USB 3.2 10Gbps - 239 Euro ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- SSD Internal around 200 Euro, PCIe 4.0, 7000MB/s speeds (when using full M.2 NVMe interface) ------------------------------------------------------- Emtec X400-10 SSD Power Pro PCIe 4.0 4TB - 189 Euro Innovation IT PerformanceY Heatsink PCIe 4.0 4TB - 203 Euro (Note that heatsink is included) Kingston NV2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD 4TB - 215 Euro Lexar NM790 NVMe PCIe 4.0 4TB, M.2 - 225 Euro Patriot Viper VP4300 Lite PCIe 4.0 4TB - 235 Euro Verbatim Vi7000G PCIe 4.0 4TB - 239 Euro TeamGroup Cardea Pro PCIe 4.0 4TB - 245 Euro (Note that heatsink is included) SSD External USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, All offer USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 with a maximum theoretical speed of 20Gbps. Their Read/Write speeds are generally described as "up to ~2050 MB/s or so" ---------------------------------------- LaCie Rugged Mini Portable SSD - 363 Euro Crucial X10 Pro - 329 Euro ADATA SE880 - 195 Euro (*2TB version, no 4TB version available) Kingston XS2000 - 318 Euro Transcend ESD380C - 276 Euro USB 3.2 Enclosures - 10Gbps --------------------------------------------------- Sabrent EC-WPNE, USB 3.2 - 35 Euro, rated IP 67 RaidSonic Icy Box IB-1817M-C31 - 26 Euro USB-C 3.2 2x2 Enclosures - 20 Gbps --------------------------------------------------- RaidSonic Icy Box IB-1916M-C32 - 44 Euro DeLOCK USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 External Enclosure - 70 Euro Lindy USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 NVMe M.2 SSD Enclosure - 78 Euro SilverStone MS12 - 56 Euro Note that I am not finding much about rugedness info about those (short of Sabrent), though they do appear beefy enough, especially given there are no mechanical parts in SSD, USB-C 4 - 40Gbps While these are rather scarce at the moment, with USB 4 standard still being new, there are some choices. I was also able to find an actual USB 4 SSD as well: SSD External USB 4: --------------------------------------------------- ADATA SE920 - 329 Euro (*2TB version, no 4TB version available) USB 4 Enclosures: --------------------------------------------------- DeLOCK USB4 40 Gbps External Enclosure - 183 Euro Yottamaster USB4 - 109 Euro Targus HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure - 105 Euro - appears to be rated IP55 Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure - 119 USD (not listed yet in DE; price from Satechi website) You can of course add more to the list, if you venture more into Aliexpress territory. So say I am going for USB 3.2, 10Gbps, cheapest possible: Sabrent EC-WPNE, USB 3.2 - 35 Euro Emtec X400-10 SSD Power Pro PCIe 4.0 4TB - 189 Euro ----- Total 224 Euro. Still less than T7. Better protection too. USB 3.2 2x2, 20Gbps version: RaidSonic Icy Box IB-1916M-C32 - 44 Euro Emtec X400-10 SSD Power Pro PCIe 4.0 4TB - 189 Euro ----- Total 233 Euro. Still less than T7. And 2x speeds. Cheapest comparable - Transcend ESD380C , 276 Euro USB 4: Targus HyperDrive Next USB4 NVMe SSD Enclosure - 105 Euro Emtec X400-10 SSD Power Pro PCIe 4.0 4TB - 189 Euro ----- Total 294 Euro. Finally we are over T7 price. And at 3x T7 speeds. Cheapest comparable - does not exist, other than 2TB version of ADATA SE920 at 329 Euro.

I have nothing against Samsung T7, certainly its a good choice, if you are looking for an out-of-the-box-portable plug'n'play basic SSD, with the addition of being rugged. However If only price is the main factor then at the very least one needs to compare drives from a similar class. Here its more apples to oranges - one is a out-of-the-box-portable rugged SSD (and that is its main selling point), one is a top range (albeit a consumer one) "normal" SSD, which can be made portable. Former, apart from its portability/ruggedness, is vastly inferior in every single technical aspect (Samsung won't even provide TBW rating for those...), from speed through reliability to warranty. And there is plenty of 4TB choices around 200 Euro (or even less) from other solid manufactures, that still outclass T7 (other than portability/ruggedness, that is w/o enclosure). Which could be much more suitable for a direct comparison possibly, other than drives from the same class (i.e. also portable/rugged like Crucial X8/Sandisk Extreme Pro). Of course prices in across countries will differ, hence that might be also a factor. Also, rugged enclosures do exist, example from Sabrent: https://sabrent.com/products/ec-wpne IP67 rating (so actually provides protection against water immersion) vs only IP65 (protection against water jets only) on Samsung T7. And let's not forget you can keep re-using the same enclosure for different SSDs in the future. And SSD itself can be fitted into any PC/Laptop (not a Macbook of course 🤣) , which in general might be seen as generating less e-waste perhaps.

Any really, there are some small differences between the generations in terms of TBW, and bigger ones in terms of speed (540 goes up to 10GB/s...) as well as IOPS (530/540 go up to 1/1.5 mln). So pick depending on usage. I am on 510 on NAS/NVR/PC - PCIe 3.0 speed "only" but since not running a db for a few hundreds users, its more than enough....and these were on a crazy sale in Alternate Germland a few moons ago 😉 Aaach and almost forgot - If not needing that high TBW etc, price/performance ratio wise TeamGroup Cardea Pro does not look too shabby as well, with decent TBW and prices - 2TB is less than 120 Euro, with sizes all the way to 8TB. Heatsink - BeQuiet MC1 Pro.

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
Thanks, missed the Waterpixel crew as well! Hope you all had a nice time and Santa did not bring too many coal bags, broken snorkels, or worse, Macbooks 😉

Profile - Additional Info box - formatting issue
I was checking the profile lately and noticed a weird formatting issue - note the "g" being in the new line: I tried to experiment with resizing, when browser window was smaller than the page, the "g" issue has disappeared but the "Additional Info" box was then rather huge: Using Firefox in 3840x2160 resolution, though also tested in the wretched Chrome at 1920x1080, with the same results. Perhaps we could shorten the descriptions and just say "Camera" and "Strobe/Lights" ?

@TimG @Davide DB Could this perhaps me merged with existing sticky "Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own.... " topic? I.e. just to avoid duplication ?

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
I think I will find enough for 2 cables but unsure about 4. But let me check, only back in the land of chocolate and taxes recently. I should be around Germland possibly in a week or two though. I will ping you once I have some idea, so we can sort out the shipping. I definitely want avoid using Bpost from here....

Somebody call for an exterminator? Ha I was wondering when the cultists fanboys Mac enthusiasts will emerge from their lairs. No underwater photo forum could possibly be complete otherwise 😂 There were some decent deals on 2TB Samsung T7 and Crucial X8 in DE (< 100 Euro), just keep an eye on mydealz site or its Dutch equivalent, pepper. Ping me if you need any help re-shipping from DE (or bringing over to BE) Or go a "custom" route - SSD housing, like Sabrent M.2 w/ USB-C then a bog standard M.2 size 2230/2242/2260/2280 - best performance and flexibility this way, since you can pick any capacity you want and usually have better cooling (those newer gen PCIe 3 and up ones do heat a lot). Samsung, Seagate, TeamGroup, Sabrent, Crucial (only upper models) are good brands. I prefer Seagate Firecuda personally - has probably the best reliability (MTBF & TBW) and comes with a 3 year data recovery warranty as well.

SUPE Scubalamp warranty / replacement procedure - a little feedback & caveat
Another reason to stay away from lights with proprietary battery packs and/or chargers...learnt that lesson with multiple Sola lights 😉 That said, RGBlue does look nice and well engineered - I like their accessory page thing, but yeah, battery pack, nope. And to break away from Japan bashing theme 😂 - my Z240s will be 10 years old in a few months, still on my first pair of o-rings. Other than the "bastard button" they never needed any service, and when I had any questions, Inon usually replied in less than a day, despite the time difference.

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
Fingers crossed! This and T-Shirts in green and mugs in other colors as well 😉 Could be definitely a nice way to supplement server/bandwidth costs. Yeah cutting device would be best...sadly when I asked network folks to use their super duper fibre cutting device they were not too keen on letting me insert multi strand fiber, so scissors it was at the end. Then found 1000 grit sandpaper laying on the shelf so decided to give that a try. Using single hole bush, so no experience there but it could be, as cable would be on the side of the LED rather than in the center.

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
If you cannot really get it re-shipped via US based Pixels, I might have some meters left of 613 and 1300 one (this one works only with strong LED triggers, for example tested Turtle and it was fine but Nauticam was not)...how much are you planning to use ?

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
Last time when this was discussed that US shop was the only source for private consumers sadly. Waaait,...did I just have an idea? WaterPixel branded fiber optic cable? 🤣 And there are great Inon rubber bushes from a well known NL store: https://www.uwcamerastore.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=inon+ruber+bush

Fibre Optic Cables? Make your own....
Now this definitely deserves to made be a sticky! On the cutting bit, I did use scissors like a barbarian then used super fine grinding paper on the ends, to polish these are bit, and that has helped a lot with the light transmission.
