Im back to the Green Waters and ive start using Full Sensor 8:7 aspect ratio on GP13 Theres a small vignette in the corners using the 8:7 with AOI UWL-03 lens, the lens adapter is from INON. But since im cropping the image to 16:9 and also to 9:16 its a non issue because the 8:7 has enough resolution to work in post production without losing quality. I also notice using the full sensor theres a better distribution of colors Red, Green, Blue using AutoWB, might be coincidence or related to the new Gopro labs software V1.30.70

New firmware for Gopro Labs V1.30.70 According to the FW release notes, now there a "new WBDV" white balance for diving, a semi-automatic WB has the scenery get more blue, the more the red channel is Gain up. In my opinion In terms of FW the Gopro is years ahead of the competition. 1.30.70 - November 21, 2024 Added WBDV - White Balance DiVe improvements. Rather than WARM for improving diving white balance, which effects WB the same at all depths, WBDV is more automatic – as the scene get more blue, the more the red channel is gain up. Currently $WBDV=1 is uses =2.33,4.0 internally (gaining red 4x after red gain hits 2.33), so you can try tuning this yourself e.g. $WBDV=2.4,5.0 Added SHEL - Using $SHEL=1 enables a command shell for Labs over a USB serial port. Every experimental, and looking for feedback. Connect to COM at 115200 8N1. All QR code command work, just type them. Used $ commands will report their data back to the shell, e.g. $BITR or $A or $p:T to read variables. Added OPNW - Open Network (allows of faster non-secure http:// vs https:// to be used with Open GoPro) Fixed supporting numbers in FourCC codes in Presets (e.g. preset named “DIVE 24HZ”) Fixed d1 and d10 for 10-bit selection Fixed voice control enabling in Labs

Video light for gopro 12
Nando Diver replied to Gmsalterego's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
@Nick I have 2x divevolk dive lights LS50 , they are rebranded from SUPE SCUBALAMP For the price/quality you can't go wrong, CRI96 and 120 Beam Angle, excellent for video. With 5000 lumens each im using them in medium settings, about 3000 lumens each, but they weight 295g underwater. But beware, the more powerful they are the heavier they become due their large battery. Ive seen myself adding buoyancy float arms to my rig to compensate the AOI lens + dive lights. Also a "bigger" system will slow you down underwater, meaning more air consumption and more restrict in movements. If was today probably i would go with Sea Dragon Dive light, max 2500/3000 lumens each. For example the Sea dragon 3000F Auto weights 110g/3.9oz in salt water, 120 Beam and CRI 90 -
Red Sea Liveaboard Gopro13 (Nov 2024)
Nando Diver replied to Nando Diver's topic in Trip Reports & Travel
Final thoughts My first liveaboard at Red Sea was positive, i confess that i had my expectations a bit too high. If you go with a Local Liveaboard Dive Guide you are limited in time of what you can film, Our Group was divided in 4 groups, i was in Non-Dive Guide group, that gave me some extra time for filming some particular scenery. Ambient and shallow waters in Marine Parks are the best scenery for getting nice colors. The wrecks was nice, but the overcrowded amount of divers keep the marine life away. Unfortunaltey no Large Pelagic was spotted this week. Im returning in the end of February 2025 for part2. -
Red Sea Liveaboard Gopro13 (Nov 2024)
Nando Diver replied to Nando Diver's topic in Trip Reports & Travel
Day 3 Diving My first Turtle filming was not the best timing, we were at the end of the dive, get ready to go back to the boat and the Turtle showed of nowhere. The area had lots of bleach corals, and the water has some kind of mistiness/Haze/Gaze that prevent correct light penetration. Also had another Diver on my tale also using video lights sometimes creating excess of red in picture. Haven't totally understand why the Gopro couldn't pop out nice colours on Jackson Reef. -
@Elvandar Use 16:9 format for youtube and 9:16 for social media

Red Sea Liveaboard Gopro13 (Nov 2024)
Nando Diver replied to Nando Diver's topic in Trip Reports & Travel
One issue that i had in first dives that ruined some filming, its be bubbles getting trapped inside or outside of AOI lens. Some places are so overcrowded with divers that i had to "hide" the camera from air bubbles 😂😂 For the first time at red sea im happy with the results obtained, there was lot of information to absorb during filming, and the diving planned briefing was not specifically for video or photography. Capture a few memories here and there. Seen lots of diving groups kicking the fins like mad... 😂😂😂 Here's a few more clips. -
Recently made a liveaboard at Red Sea starting from Hurgada. The original planed route was to made the Famous Five: the SS Thistlegorm, Brother islands, Abu Nuhas, Ras Mohamed, Salem express. Unfortunately due the weather conditions we had to skip the Salem express, Rosalie Moller and Brother islands. We left hurgada on 22th November and soon after the Hurgada Port was closed due very adverse weather conditions. We sail north to Strait of aqaba were we stay protected from the bad weather and we are able to dive at Poseidon Reef, Dunraven wreck, shark & Yolanda Reef, Thomas Reef, Gordon Reef, Jackson Reef and Anemone city. Two days in our trip and we start to receive the sad news about the Sinking of the Sea Story. This diving yatchs/boats operating at Red Sea have a flat-bottom Hull and some of them are too tall, and any stronger winds will make the boats capsize. Our Egyptian Captain & crew had maximum respect for the weather conditions along with 30 years of experience sailing at Red Sea. Our next diving spots was selected according to the possible weather conditions in the Strait of Gubal, Thistlegorm, Giannis wreck, shaab Abu nuhas, ss carnatik wreck , chrisoula k wreck and we return to hurgada to make diving at el mina. Overall the best part of the liveabord is when we stay underwater, on the surface the weather and some cold nights stops us from getting warm from one dive to another, something that im used to in my home country 😅. Insta360 Ace Pro 2
Nando Diver replied to Davide DB's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
The iphone has full accessibility to the settings underwater. I’ve tested the iphone + blackmagic camera app, theres hundreds of settings that we can modify depending de water conditions. My biggest issue was the lack of stability on the iphone. When they add the stability to the iphone and add external strobes will be a nice travel kit. -
The UWL-03 from this video, it seems to works in 8:7 aspect ratio, i never test it The INON SD/ AOI QRS mounts are backwards compatible AOI UWL-03 99mm (D) X40.3mm (H)

Heres a video create using profile WB lock (left) and profile AutoWB from Gopro labs firmware There was strong currents in the diving spot, it was very difficult to maintained the stability while filming. I notice theres minor color adjustments using AutoWB that are imperceptible to the naked eye. The big advantage of locking the White balance is keeping the same color temperature even if we move the camera where theres no light reflect to the sensor. The disadvantege is start filming to far away or to close from the subject and lock the wrong color temperature. The big advantage of using the AutoWB is filming the same stationary scene getting lights reflected back to the sensor. The disadvantage is pointing the camera from a stationary scene to wide (empty) area with no light reflection and the background water turns blue to green. For me personally im getting more fan of using locked WB profile.

At the moment ive created 3 Profiles with Gopro 13, named in easy way to swap profile underwater. AutoWB HLG HDR (stock) HLG 16:9 4K 60 W WBLOCK HLG 16:9 4K 60 W GPLOG WB NATIVE (stock) Log 16:9 5.3K 60 W From QRcontrol app ive only use the Extras > Feature FourCC Create QRcode with BITR=150 (permanent) and scan the stock profiles Create QRcode with BITR=150 + WBLK=1 and scan the remaining profile To make sure the correct settings Feature FourCC is applied in the correct profile (ex WBLK=1) after the scan reboot the Gopro and record small 5 seconds clips with different profiles. Export the original file (not cuts or processing) to the computer and use the Gopro Labs Metadata to verify the metadata. example: WBLK 0 (not applied) WBLk 1 (applied) ps: if the box permanent is selected, the Scan will apply to all profiles.

Here's two videos comparing the Profile HLG HDR left VS QRcode Generated right (NO GRADING) Hypersmooth - Autoboost video LEFT seems more stable than ON video RIGHT Generating a QR code with same settings and applying Dive=1 + Wide =1 + BITR= 150 it seems it also affects the other profiles. Dont see any differences in color, and the Bit rate jump for 120Mbit/s (stock FW) to 144Mbit/s (Gopro labs FW in all profiles including the GP-LOG profile The profile GP-LOG is 8-bit, SDR and the color space BT.709

Gopro labs (optional testing) yesterday ive tried this settings WBLK=1 don't really lock the white balance, its noticeable a change from blue to green/blue Warm=x i set red to 60….it was too much Cool=x i set the blue to 20, doesn’t make a big difference from using Auto WB…but could be handy to reduce the excess of blue at red sea for example. WBLK=1 This is an auto lock for balance, it auto white balances until the capture starts. The feature was added for scuba users, as fixed white balance are computed for above water, and while the auto works great in dive scenarios, some prefer a fix white balance per clip. WARM=x - WARM maybe useful with DIVE, so you can improve the red respond for deeper dives. x range -50 to 100. Reducing or increasing red signal only. COOL=x - COOL maybe useful with DIVE, so you can decrease the blue respond for deeper dives. x range -50 to 100. Reducing or increasing blue signal only.
