Red Filter/WB with FX1 in Green water

  1. Yes, I can highly recommend the "Hands on HDV" DVD... It makes learning the Z!/FX1 real easy. To be honest, I have not even read the Sony manual since I bought the instructional DVD even before I purchased the camera itself.

Nick/limeyx, (another Nick on this board... )

I lent mine out to Chris. If you want to borrow it (short time), please contact him. You will learn the functions of your FX1 really fast.

Cool. The manual really does suck for the FX1.

I definitely have a lot to process here!

Not to inundate you with even more info but there are 2 little known settings that topside shooters don't use as much but which are quite helpful for color correction in camera.

Color Phase (Set to +3 or more) corrects for greenish colors and pushes towards the red spectrum. This can be of help in your socal diving situation, even when using AWB ( although I would suggest against that and use daylight WB setting instead so at least in post you have a consistent picture to color correct).

If you must use AWB, set ATW SENS to HIGH (IF you are shooting the cyan/blue water of the tropics or deep ocean). It pushes the WB to compensate for the blueness.

All of these controls is accessed in the Picture Profile menu. You can read more in the user manual.

  3. Is the V1/ FX7 going to have this PP ability...

  4. Dean, they both do and the V1 has knee correction as well, which reduces blown highlights.

  5. Fantasmigoric..As they say..

    Cheers drew..

Hey Drew, thanks for the Color Phase tip, was not aware of it. I'll experiment with it in a few days.
