Tony F Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Shot was taken last month in Wakatobi. I think it's a Giant Moray, but all those white rings have me wondering. Never noticed them before on an eel. Can anyone make more of a positive id? 1
humu9679 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I'm not certain about the species, but certainly Gymnothorax. It has the look of a Stout, too, but those are pretty small. I wonder if those white rings are moray ringworm 😉
Chris Ross Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Looks like a giant moray, if it is it should have a dark patch on the gill opening which seems to be behind the coral in this shot. DO you have other pics? There doesn't seem to be too many species which look similar to the giant moray you could point to as a maybe. 1
Tony F Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 That's the only picture I took of it. I was most interested in getting a shot of the white rings on it.
Architeuthis Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I guess that the white rings are remains of a fight with an octopus...
