I have flown Emirates 3x from NYC to Maldives. All 3x they weighed all my bags. I now avoid them if possible. I do have a photo vest. The small airlines that connect many of the small islands in Indonesia have very restrictive weight limits. My normal carry on routine when weight or size is not a big issue, is a 4 wheel roller with my small backpack sitting on top. Easy to move around because of the 4 wheels and it gives my shoulders a break. The small backpack goes under the seat and the roller in the overhead or gate checked if forced.

Emirates has consistently weighed my carry-on plus personal bag and enforced the weight limit of 7kg total for both. I had to move stuff to my large check bag, put items in my jacket pockets or check my carry-on roller and just carry on my personal bag. My personal bag is a ThinkTank Airport essentials backpack. It is sized to fit under the seat. Many of the small planes used for remote locations cannot fit roller bags or larger bags in the overhead compartments. You will be forced to check the bag at check-in counter or the gate. I put camera, lenses, laptop and anything delicate in the personal sized backpack. I do like bags designed for camera protection. In the past I have use protective wraps in regular luggage only to find my gear unwrapped and an inspection note in my bag. I did have light reflectors bent out of their round shape as a result.

Did he say he used an action cam to record the test ? Does an action cam auto adjust exposure to make the overall scene look the way it wants ? I don't doubt the Keldan had the most even and powerful output, but if the camera used to record the test is auto adjusting, the real differences btw the lights will be hard to see.

I have not used the 28-60 with a diopter. Thanks for explaining the differences in a way beginners such as myself can understand.

Thank you for taking the time to explain. The examples you listed made it easier for me to understand focus-distance gaps and how it affects shooting.

Apologies, I am a newbie and not familiar with the ratio terminology. Nauticam lists the CMC-1 and 2 as options to be used with the 28-60. I assumed this is to shorten the minimum focus distance at 60 for macro like performance. I thought the MFO-3 was designed to be used with 100mm macro lenses to create a system to mimic 50-60mm macro lenses because some subjects are too large for 100mm and existing 50-60mm macro lenses autofocus poorly. I own the 28-60 lens and flat port for use with the WWL for wide angle shooting. It would be nice if the 28-60 could also be used for medium to narrow angle shooting by adding the CMC-2. It is certainly more compact than the 100mm MFO-3 combination. I just do not know how the 2 setups compare optically or in ease of use.

Has anyone done a comparision between these 2 setups ? I see good reviews for the 100mm with MFO-3, but not much on the 28-60 with CMC-2. For larger macro and medium size subjects, how do these setups compare ?

I was setup for wide angle, so I enjoyed the manta dives. We had a good trip, but I do think we enjoyed Raja Ampat more in comparison.

Coralia looks great. We tried to get on it, but seems they book up with charters in advance. I think you will enjoy Raja in comparison to the Caribbean. Yes, it would be nice to dive with you guys.

Just got back from Komodo. 1st trip with the Nauticam WWL wide angle lens. Performed very well. Unfortunately, I was using auto wihte balance during the manta dive. Never again.

Awesome ! I cannot believe this was created with a GoPro. Proof it is the skill of diver/videographer/editor that matters most.

Ah, that is the reason for macro focused on your rig. I would be interested to see and hear your post trip photos/experiences. Particularly macro photo vs video. I personally find macro vs wide angle and photo vs video to be opposite in difficulty. W/A photo difficult, W/A video easy. Macro video difficult, macro photo easy.

I dabbled in UW photography. I was never happy with my wide angle photos. Too difficult to get good w/a composure with the animal life. UW macro photography was easier. UW macro video is tough w/o a tripod. The timing/synchronizing is part of the editing process. Deciding the type of clip, clip length and when/where to place it in the timeline to tell the story and match the audio. The amount of effort I put into the editing is mostly determined by the quality, variety and quantity of clips I have. Some dive trips do not generate enough good footage to put together a thought out synchronized video. I have done plenty of videos with a pleasant song and just threw in the clips I enjoy the editing process and find UW video more satisfying than UW photography. What setup do you have ? Gopro is very good given it's size, but I was never satisfied with it's low light or white balance. Not sure how much the latest versions have improved.

Thanks for the kind words Evan. I have a Sony A1 and Tamron 24-70 2.8 lens. I use both for topside photography portraits, headshots and weddings. UW housing is a Nauticam with dome port and lights are Big Blue. I used to shoot a lot of UW video in the past but got away from it for a while. I was using Adobe Premiere. But now, I did not feel like paying for Premiere so I am trying out the free version of Davinci Resolve. Music is Hans Zimmer. Very well known and famous movie soundtrack composer. Do you shoot photo or video ?

Spent 10 days diving on the Arenui. Dove Raja 18yrs ago. Nice to see it looks just as good.

If you shoot all your footage at 50p, what do you set your timeline at ?

I switched from 24p to 60p because I prefer the smoother motion of 60p for uw video. Curious if anyone is shooting 120p ?

Oh, my mistake. A7rV. The low light and manual white balance capabilities are very good. No filter needed for manual white balance.
