  1. The 27” is a nice size and certainly makes things more affordable. Looking forward to feedback on which direction you go.
  2. I found a used Saga, but had I not I would have tried the AOI. One thing to be careful about is the weight of the MFO-3. I'm using the Saga with an Inon wet lens and a red filter which are pretty light. Not sure how heavy the MFO-3 lens is?
  3. That looks like an excellent approach! I was looking at NYA-EVO bags and getting sticker shock, plus I'm guessing they are pretty heavy as well. EDIT: Just looked it up, at $450 and 5+lbs empty for the 60I think I'll pass.
  4. Welcome Mr. Duck! You have me beat by a couple years--I got my basic in 1980 and AOW/Rescue in 1981, so another old fart here!
  5. Davide, If you haven’t already bought a monitor you might want to check out the ASUS PA32UCXR. It has 4k and HDR capability, and this tester got 89% of rec 2020 in addition to 99% DCI-P3 and aRGB albeit on the PA32UCXP not the “R” I ordered (the P model has improved off-axis viewing). I found a PA32UCXR $800 off on Amazon. It seems to check a lot of boxes. I wanted a 6k monitor, but I didn’t find one that had all the other capabilities that this has. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDF83MXM?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Evan
  6. After some more hand-wringing, I ordered an ASUS PA32UCXR 4k HDR monitor for video and productivity, although it has 99% aRGB and ~87% rec 2020 so should work great for photo editing. Both the monitor and my new sit/stand desk are supposed to arrive Thursday. Love it when a plan comes together!
  7. To all who recommended the Eizo…wow were you right! The photo and video quality is amazing, and this is on a 12 year old monitor! It really has me thinking whether I want a newer 27 Eizo to pair with the CX271, or if I’m better off getting a monitor better suited to HDR with higher resolution? Thanks again!
  8. North Sulawesi—NAD Lembeh on the Lembeh Strait. Going with Underwater Tribe, who was recommended to me as a great group of photo instructors. Plan to shoot mostly macro stills, but also try some video with the M10 and GoPro.
  9. I upgraded to a Hero 13 last year spring before our trip to Fiji. I wasn't happy with the quality without lights, although after many months I finally started playing with the clips in iMovie and adjusting white balance did some pretty amazing things. I bought a Backscatter Sharp Wide wet lens last fall and dove with it in December in Monterey. Very happy with the improved quality, but not with my ability to maneuver the GoPro in 5mm gloves. Picked up a tray with trigger, but haven't tried it out yet in water--seems to be a great improvement above water. The tray also gives me the ability to add 1 or 2 lights. I started getting interested in diving in Indonesia which means macro. GoPro doesn't do macro realistically so I dove down the underwater photography rabbit hole. I was somewhat restrained in camera and housing choosing the OM Systems E-M10 IV micro 4/3 camera and the AOI octo housing. I also got the 60 mm macro lens, port, and focus gear. I was less restrained on accessories, figuring I could reuse/resell strobes. I bought 2 Backscatter HF-1 strobes/video lights, various arms and floats, as well as an MF-1 with snoot and a Bluewater video light with the idea I can use the MF-1 or Bluewater light as a focus light. I've only gotten the camera and housing wet in the pool using the pancake kit lens and natural light. I'm pretty happy with the results. Heading to Cocoview in April for a couple weeks of intense practice along with a 1-day class with Mickey Charteris, and Indonesia or a couple weeks in July.
  10. I’m just starting photography/videogrphy after several years of GoPro use. I’m familiar with Han Zimmer. The timing seemed synchronized, so I was wondering if it was an app/service that was a custom composition. Very nice.
  11. The photo of fan coral I don't see a lot of difference between the two. Is it just me?
  12. Ron, This is a great video! Watched a couple times. Not only great video, but nicely put together and a great soundtrack. I'd be interested in learning more about what you shot and your post processing including music selection. Thanks! Evan
  13. And I can see the difference on my Eizo monitor, but not on my iPad. The MacBook kind of reveals the difference, but not as clearly as the Eizo. Thanks!
  14. Update: I took advantage of the US holiday to peruse Facebook Marketplace and found an older Eizo 27” monitor for $100 15 minutes away from me. It is a CX271–about 12 years old, but 99% aRGB and seemingly in great operational shape. I got my SpyderX tonight and calibrated it without issue. The thing is a beast at 28 lbs for a 27” monitor. Playing with big boy toys!😎 Now to use it to look at this thread with the different gamut pics as I don’t see any difference with my iPad! Thanks for all the advice! I’ve learned a lot!
  15. Davide, That makes perfect sense, and the impression I got from the video was to leave the data there even though you can't see it. My day job makes machines to make microLEDs, so I'm hoping they are ready sooner than later! Thanks, Evan
  16. Dave, Based on the quality of your images, if it's good enough for you, it's more than good enough for me! I'll add it to the list. Thanks, Evan
  17. Davide, Thank you. I was just going to add that I discovered the ASUS ProArt last night that looks pretty interesting as a lower cost option (it's also quite a bit brighter than either Eizo or BenQ). It's definitely on my list. One other thing I found interesting in the video I linked above was doing all edits in the largest gamut possible, then clamping to the appropriate color space for the publication medium. The video talks about keeping files in rec.2020 if possible. I don't see any panels capable of rec.2020, so what is the impact of keeping more colors/luminance than the panel can display? I've seen the color plots for years, but am just now understanding what they mean. I found this graph useful for photo gamuts (I assume rec.709 for video is similar, but I haven't dived down that rabbit hole just yet): Best, Evan
  18. Chris, I'm starting to get it. Thanks! Evan
  19. Just found this video which explains the difference between the standards: Which Color Space should you use for Photography
  20. Chris, I've been traveling for work the past few days, so while I read this a couple days ago I went back through the thread and realized I missed a lot. Your point of having one panel for calibrated work makes sense. It's not clear why you would need an Eizo for the second monitor? Wouldn't a less expensive monitor work fine for more pedestrian work? I looked at the 31" as I really want a bigger monitor for video editing. It's speedy! But if I keep my 27" HP monitor and just add the Eizo it won't be too terrible. One thing I like about the Dell is the ability to accommodate a MacBook and PC with a single keyboard/mouse. While not a requirement, I'd like to be able to continue to use my PC as long as it runs, while using my MacBook for Lightroom and iMovie. I don't think the Eizo will do this without adding a switch of some sort. Thanks again for all the info! I'm diving into the Image Science link. The BenQ SW321C seems like it might be a less expensive option to Eizo with a 99% aRGB, although I understand it's not quite at the same level. Also its video editing capability is not clear. One thing I'm seeing is both the Eizo and BenQ brightness is fairly low at 350 and 250 nits, compared to 1000 nits for the Apple Pro XDR and 400 for the Dell 52. I need to do more homework on the difference between sRGB and aRGB and P3. I hear you on the value of the aRGB blues for underwater photography, but I don't have a feeling for what the different standards really mean to images.
  21. Thanks all. Appreciate the input. How are Eizo monitors for video editing?
  22. Thanks for the Eizo recommendation. I’d seen that brand mentioned, but am not familiar with it. Will dig deeper. I came across this 6k 52” from Dell that is intriguing as it promises to work with up to 4 computers simultaneously, working as a single monitor or multiple monitors. Dell 52” Wide 6k Monitor
  23. I'm looking to upgrade my 2x27" generic HP monitors to one or two 32" monitors that can work with my PC as well as with my MacBook. I'll just use the PC for basic computer tasks, and use my MacBook for Lightroom and iMovie editing. The Apple Pro seems to be a safe if very expensive choice, and not so good with the PC. I see a lot of rave reviews of the ASUS 6k monitor. Benq seems to get good reviews for a combination of photo and video editing.
