  1. It doesn't seem a serious scratch. Now you have two lens so just try to polish the scratch with Novus. You could print a cap for yourself or just trying to find a kitchen cap of the right measure...
  2. How nice to see threads derailed like driverless trains! But then again, we are on general chat and so as the next round of beers arrives I say my two cents. 🍻 I totally get it! When we talk about smartphones and cameras, we always end up comparing them to good vs. evil, matter vs. antimatter, and so on. What I really meant was the technology inside smartphones, not smartphone itself. So, let's start with the data: Research and development are directly proportional to the numbers in the market in which you operate, and the numbers we saw in the first post are merciless. The technology supporting the photo/video/audio/connectivity department of a smartphone is years ahead of a mirrorless camera. It's only a matter of time before some of the amazing technology developed for smartphones makes its way into the photography market of yesteryear. I'm not sure exactly how, who, or when it will happen, but I'm excited to see what the future holds! These are the data. From these I can only speculate. A market leader, they usually have no reason to change things; on the contrary, they try hard to maintain their monopoly. They act like incumbents. Just think how late Canon, Nikon & co. embraced mirrorless technology and, once they did, how quickly they are saturating the market. Vice versa, those who want to enter or gain market share have every interest in shuffling the cards with innovations. Staying in the photographic sector, the first real mirrorless with interchangeable lenses was the Lumix G1 in 2008 (formally the Epson and Leica). Panasonic never had big numbers in the photographic market. Sony, another company that did not have large shares at the time, was the one that contributed the most to its spread among professionals with the A7 in 2013. But perhaps the most striking example of an outsider overtaking you on the right is Apple in the world of telephony. None of Apple's current competitors in smartphones existed before the invention of the iphone. Look what happened to Nokia ⚰️ A company must enter and disrupt from the outside. Current camera manufacturers are only capable of repeating themselves and innovating with the dropper. It is in the nature of things. It's so important for a company to enter and disrupt from the outside. It's a shame, but current camera manufacturers are only capable of repeating themselves and innovating with the dropper. It's just the way things are! It's a bummer, but it's tough for a big company in the smartphone game to want to sink their money into a tiny market like photography. Maybe it's the opposite! Samsung made some pretty cool mirrorless cameras that were ahead of their time. But then, without any warning, they left the photography market. The whole photography division was moved to the mobile division, which is a much more lucrative market. In my opinion, and this is just a fantasy, one company that would be perfect for shaking things up is DJI. But beer has arrived and we'll talk about that later 🍺
  3. We have discussed AOI action camera lenses many times, but let's not forget that INON was the first to develop an entire set of professional accessories for their underwater use. A press release from INON has just come out confirming that their entire line of accessories is fully compatible with the new GoPro 13. The thing I really appreciate about INON is that they give full instructions on using their lenses with the GoPro's endless shooting and photography modes (FOV).

  4. INON is pleased to announce that existing INON accessories for HERO12 Black are confirmed compatible with HERO13 Black when housed in its genuine dive housing (Protective Housing). Existing INON lenses including UFL-G140SD, UCL-G165II SD, UCL-G100 SD, UCL-G55 SD are usable for HERO13 Black as well at the same condition for HERO12 Black. INON Action Camera Wet Lenses Usage Tips INON " SD Front Mask for HERO9 " or " M67 Filter Adapter for HERO9 " doesn't create vignetting underwater even using 8:7 aspect ratio or HyperView which delivers footage in 16:9 aspect ratio by using the full 8:7 sensor (vignetting will be observed on land.). When using INON " UFL-G140 SD " " UCL-G165II SD " " UCL-G100 SD " " UCL-G55 SD ", shoot in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio as vignetting will occur in 8:7 or HyperView mode. When using INON UFL-G140 SD lens on HERO13 Black and shooting in 4K 9:16 or 1080p 9:16, the lens hood appears in a clip. Remove the lens hood or use 4:3 or 16:9 shooting mode. Always set camera's Field of View (FOV)/Digital Lenses to [WIDE]. Using [Linear] or [Narrow] won't bring optimal performance of this lens. When using with HERO11 Black/HERO12 Black/HERO13 Black, shoot in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio as vignetting will occur in 8:7 or HyperView mode. When shooting 4K 9:16 or 1080p 9:16 with HERO12/HERO13, the lens hood tips will appear in a clip. Remove the lens hood or use 4:3 or 16:9 shooting mode. [SuperView™] mode is not recommended. The SuperView™ mode stretches both ends of the image inside the camera to fit into a 16:9 aspect ratio from originally obtained 4:3 aspect ratio image by the camera sensor. Since the edges of the frame are stretched horizontally, attaching a wide-angle lens further stretches the edges of the frame, resulting in an unnatural image. Set the camera's image stabilization (HyperSmooth) to [Standard], [High], or [On]. Setting to [Off] will cause vignetting in image corners, and [Boost] will crop the image significantly. The FOV/Digital Lenses setting [Wide] in Photo mode causes vignetting in image corners. Since this lens provides ultra wide angle of view, it is recommended to set Spot Meter to [ON] when using external lighting source (LED flashlight etc.). Setting Spot Meter to [OFF] may have washout if the external lighting device aims center of the frame.
  5. Yes, from what I read an Action 5 pro has the same runtime of a gopro 11 + digipower. Unbelievable! P.S. I would like to have a Digipower for the DJI Osmo Action 5 pro 😄
  6. Yes of course. Didi you read my old thread on this topic? We linked it already. https://waterpixels.net/forums/topic/616-inon-and-aoi-wide-angle-wet-lenses-for-gopros/?do=findComment&comment=3616 and https://waterpixels.net/forums/topic/616-inon-and-aoi-wide-angle-wet-lenses-for-gopros/page/2/#comment-2924 Basically you need: a 52mm screw adapter for the gopro lens. a 52mm screw adapter for the AOI lens. some DIY skill to modify the gopro lens screw adapter * The 52mm gopro lens screw adapter holds onto the gopro lens cover with a small hexagonal screw. My adapter had two holes, and I fitted an extra screw. The lens is very heavy and when you mount everything, the weight tends to pull off the gopro lens cover with great risk. Sometimes it doesn't come off but the lens cover loses water resistance under the weight of the lens. The only solution is to handle it with extreme care. The AOI lens is a wet lens so I drilled two 1mm small holes to facilitate water leakage between the lens and the screw adapter and then covered it with tape because I was afraid of light penetration. There is no vignetting in the water. Later I also added an additional ring to distance the lens and lens cover from the gopro to try to solve some strange problems I was experiencing. It's all written in the thread. I could never figure out what the source of the problem was. This year if I try again, I will try to make with a 3D printer a standard bayonet mount to use directly with the Digipower and eliminate the screw mount which is very delicate.
  7. If huge depth of filed is your goal then the classic AOI UWL 03 (or Inon equivalent) is your friend. My experiments with trouts show that you get objects in focus nearly on lens dome with exceptional quality. @Nikolausz YT channel has several examples of what you can achieve with it. ciao
  8. Very serious! You are condemned to Dante's circle of videographers!
  9. Looking at the social channels of AOI ambassadors/influencers, nothing has come out yet. I saw that they are all cruising with Gopro13, AOI housing and maybe Pro lens. I guess something will come out in the next few days. https://www.facebook.com/KBurn
  10. Naaaaaaaa I can't believe it 😁 You are right: I tested the pump alone but I didn't try the wine cap!!! This should do by default into the DIY section!!!
  11. Wow! I have to check if it is in Europe. Just think, I broke the Nauticam pump last month and was scared when I read the price. So I looked for a replacement and the first clue was the wine pump. however, I looked directly in the kitchen drawer (I have two) only to find that they have a different diameter. But I wasn't brave enough to look online. i thought it was a standard. I got the rubber part cut off. So finally I glued it with a cyanoacrylate glue specifically for plastic and then covered it with Kintsuglue (Sugru). So far it's working. In fact, I think a package of Sugru or Kintsuglue is essential in the spare kit. On a liveaboard, a friend of mine was able to repair a broken Scubapro frameless mask with Sugru. Ugly but it works
  12. We spoke about it on another thread I link here. Long story short: computational photography is here to stay and camera manufacturers are really behind even if some features make a timid appearance. As much as the marketing of the photography market would have you believe otherwise, the features of a top-of-the-line mirrorless camera are ridiculous compared to a mid-range smartphone, but the price of a mirrorless camera is at least 5 times higher. In another forum there was a very heated discussion about these numbers. Basically the question is, if the numbers are so merciless, why don't camera manufacturers use the same hardware platforms used in phones, thus counting on an economy of scale? If you search the net, the question has been asked dozens of times and the answer is not obvious. When it comes to smartphones, many people confuse the operating system (Android, IOS) with the hardware platform (Snapdragon, Tensor, and A15), and the answers are completely wrong.
  13. Welcome aboard! We hope you will enjoy the forum.
  14. Just think that just two days ago I got my hands on a photo book by Fosco Maraini who in 1954 photographed and described for the first time the AMAs, the Japanese women pearl fishers. So when I saw the photos of the fishermen, I thought back to the book.
  15. Luko, your report was absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I'm sure the report will be appreciated for a long time, especially since the place is so popular! And a big congratulations on the gorgeous photos! I know this might be a bit of a different take, but I really loved the photos of the fishermen. They have such a fascinating anthropological meaning.
  16. Hi Maria, Welcome aboard! Less is more!
  17. Sorry, I didn't notice it was a Flickr link: Which controls did you have?
  18. Wow! Which film camera was inside? Super-8?
  19. Toby you are another league 😄
  20. Initially, we too tried to go this route with some old polycarbonate compact camera housings. Then we gave up because many of these cheap housings have a deep flat port to accommodate the original compact camera lens, and the gopro would stay back and vignette. At least, we were not so lucky in finding the right housing.
  21. On Potato Jet video he is using a Smallrig frame that I think is for the Action 4.
  22. Another test (no underwater) among the bazillions review. He was able to record a single clip for 203 minutes at 4K with BT and external mic enabled
  23. It seems a solid upgrade. The audio seems fantastic and the possib6to pair it directly with their external mics. Underwater video seems good. BTW sharks clip @13:35 isn't natural light but I think is an edit mistake. P.S. And many kudos to the snorkelist 😁
  24. For deeper projects there's a aluminium housing for the DigiPower case/battery: https://www.flex-arm.com/en/housings-smartphone-action-camera/underwater-housing-gopro/t-housing-aluminium-housing-h10-power-for-gopro-hero-11-and-hero-10-and-hero-9.html
  25. Yes, as Ben wrote i used a Digipowr case compatible with the latest GoPro (12 at least). I bought an old version for a GoPro5 too. I was able to get up to 4 hours, sometime more at 4k@50p in a 9°C river water. The DigiPower case/battery gives you the same standard waterproofing as the GoPro. The only problem I had was with the AOI lens. After about an hour the image degraded terribly. Partly due to suspension particles sticking to the lens and partly due to some kind of blurring of the Gopro's inner lens. We could never quite figure out what it was due to. the AOI lens works like a WWL and so there is water flow between it and the Gopro lens. Eventually we didn't use it anymore because we threw away some very important images because of it. but the Digipower case/battery goes like a bomb.
