How do you pack your dive gear for travel?
RVBldr replied to Troporobo's topic in Travel Gear and Packing Tips
I've been happy with a Stahlsac Clipper bag Wheeled Dive Luggage: Stahlsac Clipper Roller Bag Luggage and it's been to Chuuk, Hawaii a bunch, FL, Maldives, Indonesia, etc. It fits the general dive gear (3 or 5mm suit, reg, BC, fins, booties, and other misc items like float arms and my CCR Breathing hoses, then clothes for a week or so, coming in at about 45 lbs. So far the bag is holding up well including zippers. -
Chip, assume you looked at the 140mm dome as well? I was potentially looking at the very same configuration with 8-15 and the Zen100.

My supplier for experimental aviation avionics had their own branding which also seems applicable to the usual u/w photography suppliers: 🤔

Only about 5 dives so far, but all works per design with no issues.

I can attest that there's a steep learning curve but worth the effort. I had the prism-enabled cheaper snoot for the YS, but upgraded to the SOFT (non-lite version) with the YS-D3 mount ring. Its' a bit large and another bit of kit to carry around, but has a nice adjustable target beam that seems to work well. Learning how to target and align with the focus depth will take a little patience and practice.

A7RiV Nauticam Setup - sanity check
RVBldr replied to hedonist222's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
For the diopters, you could consider the bayonet mount instead of the flip holder. They do swap out very quick and might get some of the bulk off the front of that port when not in use. Just a consideration. -
Really nice, Blue Heron Bridge?

Been using a D3 for several years now in both tropical and cold water, and generally, it's been a solid strobe. I just had a minor flood in HI a month ago, but a bit of white vinegar to clean out the battery compartment, and a new cap and I'm back in business. Still don't know why it flooded but seems to have only been a partial as the strobe kept firing through the dive.

Advice on upgrade path: TG-6 to RX100VII, OM-1, a6700 ???
RVBldr replied to MarkG2's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Just piling on to Humu's comment above, if you want to do the direction of a FF, the A7C is very close in size to the a6700, and likewise, the 1/160 sync speed doesn't seem to be an issue. -
SLR to Mirrorless - Macro or WA first?
RVBldr replied to scuba_jc's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Just a consideration as a Puget Sound shooter, I shot the kit Sony 28-60mm with FF with the shorter port and bayonet fitting, adding the CMC-1 for macro, and that worked really well, but you need to get close. Coupled with a WWL-1B, it's a flexible kit that allows for days when viz and particulates in the water are better than expected. Later, I did move to the 90mm for a bit of stand-off capability, and that seems to be the time that a GPO shows up (it's always when you have the wrong lens). Just a thought. -
OK, I see that for single LR sub. Interesting, I don't see the previous offer for the $9.99 LR/PS Photo package, but if you dig around, it's there under a Photography group. Adobe Creative Cloud Plans, Pricing, and Membershipnullnull

I've been a subscriber for a long time with the Photography package, but looking at options, it appears that the Photography pack with 1Tb storage is about $20, but only 7 desktop apps, vs. 13 for the $9.99 plan (20 Gb).

Experiences - Sony A7Cii / A7CR

Love the 90mm macro lens. Very nice pics. -
It's an interesting focus light that's adjustable in width, strobe seems to be hitting where it's pointed, just shooter's error on my part in getting it on target. Thanks for the link, good info and we'll try it again next weekend.

Just got a new Marelux snoot to work with my Sony A7C, 90mm macro, and YS-D3 strobe. I'm shooting in Puget Sound, drysuit, and bulky dry gloves. I have a couple questions after today's first time out with the snoot. 1) With the battery and adjustment knob for beam width, what's the best way to store the snoot if not using? It barely fits in a Santi pocket, so I was thinking a short tether and clip it off. 2) What's the best way to aim the snoot? I had the snoot shooting center and overhead the target, but getting the beam to center where the macro focus point sets, is a challenge which took a bit of fidgeting. Any helpful hints other than practice? Any good words of wisdom for those with more experience? Shots below were first time out and I got a bit lucky with the frosted nudi as the beam was a little to the left.

Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G announced
RVBldr replied to Barmaglot's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
It will be interesting to see if it works with the WWL as well, or will it just have significant vignetting? -
This conversation is not making future buying choices any easier! I've been using the A7C for last year and a half, and the new FCP, although really freakin' expensive, is enticing. But the A7C R is also enticing, and also entails the new housing. Decisions, decisions. Or maybe wait till the A7C III or R II. Who knows, it's always something.

Also got back from 10-day "Best of Maldives" 4 FEB on Blue Force 3, company did a great job for the most part. I'd book with them again, no issues.
-
I'd agree with the 7AC, but the 7AC II/ 7AC R are generally the same sensor/AF as the IV/ RV models, but a slightly smaller case. And unfortunately, they won't fit in the older A7C housing. The biggest difference may be the strobe sync speed as I don't think the A7C II/ R inherited the 1/250 speed of the A7s.

Another transplant from WetPixel primarily diving Puget Sound and Seattle area of Pacific Northwest. Been shooting Sony for last 10 years and primarily dive CCR these days.
