Stop me before I buy again...
When I look at camera specs, most cameras use more battery power when viewing through the viewfinder. Know why this is so? Some of the newer cameras are using bigger batteries, and that makes this observation meaningless, but I found it curious, especially with the chintzy little batteries in compacts ten years ago. HSS will minimize Backscatter
Diving conditions may be terrifying to bring this theory to practical use.

HSS will minimize Backscatter
Assuming all variables being the same - strobe angle, conditions, distance to subject, adjusted exposure - how can that be?

Upgrade from Olympus Tough to better compact or small mirrorless
The step up from the TG models is a cliff. Bring a parachute. I've heard that the R50 is quite good - its size and focusing ability, plus with Canon's renown color science. But when you add strobes, everything gets bigger and bulkier, including the TG series (which I quite like). You might consider strobes such as the Inon S-220 and Backscatter MF-2 (TTL exposure with Olympus) both of which have smaller footprints. One strobe for a smaller footprint, and two if you want to be like everybody else. One flash can make some nice photos, however.

Update: Up for sale is a Nauticam housing for the Sony A7c in very good condition. Comes with UW Technics flash trigger and a Nauticam Sony flash trigger. It is vacuum ready. You just need the button and cap. It has fewer than 100 dives on her, and I would go far longer before I would consider servicing. $1750 plus $30 shipping. $1500 and free shipping within the USA.
