Underwater Custom 18.7K Cine Camera
Elvandar replied to Nikolausz's topic in Video Gear and Technique
If you watch 4k content on a 1080p monitor, you can't see the difference from a 4k video to a 1080 p video, the same here, 18.7k on a 4k monitor, you can't see the difference, even more since it is uploaded and compressed by vimeo. But the original file must be BIG, the advantage is that you can crop a lot without losing quality. -
Thanks! I know about the ace pro issue, if I change from GoPro, it will be in some time, probably AcePro 2, Dji 5, and maybe GoPro 14 will be on the table, for now, I am happy 😁

I don't know much about battery, but they also added a pin on it, probably to better control for heat or something, and if this is the case, and this change bring a real improvement in thermal management, it could be justified. Imagine of they did not reverse it, and people seeing the same external form factor, try to jam a 5 pin battery inside a 4 pin receptacle. This if they changed it for a good reason, still, there is also the other possibility, where they just added a random pin, to make us pay more for newer, costlier accessories. At least they kept the same form factor, but I dont know if they will keep it forever, it's since Gopro 9 that they mantain it, while before it lasted less time. Probably it will be the cost of a new sensor/processor implementation.

For the low ligth it's clear the rankings, 1st acepro, then dji and last gopro, even the stabilization just stopped working. The same youtuber made another versus video, but in normal ligth, and there the difference was hard to spot. I am bound to gopro for now because I got the Inon bayonet mounting system, basically, like you @Davide DB, I am still with them for accessories support, but this month, AOI, should present their bayonet system compatible with AcePro and Dji. Two of my friend, already bougth the AcePro, and they are just waiting for this accessory, and I am keen to see the result footage too, hoping the transition is seamless, and the different and bigger sensor does not introduce other issue.

What do you think about the new GoPro now that is out? As a GoPro 12 possessor I am a bit disappointed, since all the improvement, except maybe the new bigger battery, does not change or improve the underwater use, and the hoped upgrade on the sensor or processor didn't come. Even the new cooling feature should not matter a lot underwater, since we use the best watercooling avaiable 😁 What do you think? Will you upgrade?

I know that aspect ratio suck for wallpaper 🫤 And even shooting high resolution, when cropped, if it's not a very sharp photo, it start to lose quality fast 🥺 @bvanant thanks for now!

@canislupus probably I have mistaken the focus light with a very narrow light beam, but for sure the DL07 does not have a narrow beam, but a pretty large one, and pretty powerful when near the subject, even on medium, I hope you can make it fit your need 😁 Still a good light for the price! If you want il send some video or pic of the beamof the DL07 on a dark room

Like the title, I would love if someone could share with me via mail some crisp underwater picture to use as my wallpaper, i searched online but with that dual QHAD resolution (5120x1440) a lot of image lose their magic when i use them. Thanks in advance to who will respond!

I got 4 torches from wurkkos: 2 DL07 as video ligth to use with the gopro (50€ each with 1 battery 26650 and charger) 1 DL70 as main ligth, (60/70€ with 2 battery 26650 and charger ) 1 DL61 as backup main ligth, a bit less strong than DL70, but a bit warmer ligth and more uniform (60/70€ with 2 battery 26650 and charger) All of them performed really good, and a lot of people in my club bougth them because they are pretty high quality for the price. I got first the DL70 and one of the DL07, and i did around 80 dives with no problem, finishing without problem 2 one hour dive with one charge, leaving the torch on on medium setting, and ramping it up when needed. Here the main selection of diving ligth they have: Diving light (wurkkos.com)

Gopro 12 timelapse
Elvandar replied to Gmsalterego's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
I suggest you to just take normal video and then extract the frames you are interested, and generally avoid use the gopro for taking still, in my experience, GoPro shine with video, and pretty much sucks with photo. But if you still want to take photo, you can try to use the burst option, and you can set how many photo to take in how much time, like 60 photo in 10 seconds, or 10 photo in 3 seconds. To take 5 photo in 15 second, as you asked, just press the button every 3 second when you like the action you see Ps: my profile cover photo is extracted from a video made with GoPro 11 and a macro lens, just as an example for the quality you can expect -
Destination, Resort, Dive Guide and Critter-Spotter Recommendations
Elvandar replied to TimG's topic in Trip Reports & Travel
For Raja Ampat, I stayed at Augusta Eco Resort, was a really good week, every dive there was something new, we were followed by Marco, the owner, and one of the dive guide. The owner are italian, and they work with a lot of local empolyees, and everyone was really good and professional. The diving, by standard, plan 3 dive a day, but on request, and based on the weather forecast they organize day trip with 2/3 dive and visit to the near island, or night dives on the house reef. From my italian point of view, food was ok, neither bad or stellar. If you don't plan a lot of diving or snorkel, the island where the resort is, has not a lot to offer, except silence and relax, since there is no other building, and you can walk around the island in about 30/40 minutes. By night you can find some coconut crab roaming around the island. -
INON UFL-G140 removal/reduction of a scratch
Elvandar replied to Elvandar's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
Inon replied to me that the novus product would not work because the dome it's not just acrylic, but it has also a coating layer, that would be stripped away during polishing. I don't know how bad the lens would be after total or partial removal of this coating. -
INON UFL-G140 removal/reduction of a scratch
Elvandar replied to Elvandar's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
I sent to you on pm the list of authorized repairs shop for inon, from their website, but a bit too late, since you already sent the lens. To open the lens, is pretty simple, you need to unscrew the 4 little screw of the lens hood, then there is another even littler screw, you need to remove it. After that, you can open the lens like a jar, with the outer metal part that unscrew from the main body. This metal ring, is what keep the outer lens in place. -
Some video from last weekend in Croatia! The night dive help me a lot with the colour balancing, I love have only the torch as source of light 😁

Wurkkos USB Charger 2 Slots 18650 26650 16340 26650 Rechargeable Battery Universal Charger Charger for battery I use this bad boy for charging my 26650 battery, and support also 18650, super cheap, and if you get one of their torch, it comes with the package, if you select the option with battery. Got it for 3 years, still going.

I shoot without red filter and with light, but I used my spot lights, because I did not have time to adjust my two video lights, overexposing a lot in certain areas of the image, mostly on the sand 🙃 I am using Da Vinci Resolve, but I moved way too much settings I think, I have to try again the colour balancing starting from the base video 😁

I am slowly editing the video I made, I had a really short time to film them, with a bit of a poor result, because it was the last dive of the day, and the guide was going pretty fast 😅 In the next days I'll put the wide clip result, I started with this since I wanted to check the result with the Inon g55 PS, I am not convinced that i made a good job on the color correction, any suggestion on that? I am still learning how to do it

Welcome!

This weekend I'll try to get some test footage and post it raw and color graded without filters, but with the wide angle lens (GoPro 11) I am really interested in this topic, and I'd really like of what people prefer between red filters/no filter, the time where I used them, I mostly screwed up with a bit too unnatural color
-
I got the GoPro 11, and I had the polarpro red/magenta filters that are sold on the official GoPro website, but I sold them for three reason: -The newer GoPro have a better auto white balance, and I did some test, where I was continuosly filming, where I could just see that the before and after insertion of the filter, was almost identical, because the camera would compensate it, rending it almost useless if not worsening the image by adding too much red. -I found out that by applying a fast filter on the Quick app, or by editing in post, I would get better result without filters. -If you use decent light, don't use filter, if you don't like a red world By not using filter, I was also able to use the INON wet lens, the UFL-G140 SD and UCL-G165 SD, wich improve by a lot the quality of the footage, and permitting me to go up to 4 cm from subject, instead of the minimum of 60 that have the GoPro without lens. I Put here two examples, the first while I was using filter 2 years ago in the Philippines, and the second this year at raja ampat with the 140 wide lens. In both you can see my still shit editing skill, but concentrate on the image quality 😬 Philippines + filters: Raja ampat + UFL-G140:

INON UFL-G140 removal/reduction of a scratch
Elvandar replied to Elvandar's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
The repaired lens came back yesterday, now is like new again the only small problem I had wiht the swap, is that some dust was trapped between the inner and outer lens, but after contacting the repair shop, I was able to remove the outer dome, clean every spec of dust, and close it again, and after a test underwater, now is perfect again! Here the video before and after the dust clean: Before: Video WhatsApp 2024-06-11 ore 16.19.07_9b683d4e.mp4 After: Video WhatsApp 2024-06-12 ore 10.11.59_1e09d724.mp4
