As in the title, I am searching for a tripod for my setup, for now I am evaluating 2 models from Joby: 1) The 5k model, that can support up to 4 kg and is made of aluminium Gorillapod 5K Video Pro Kit per Video Professionali | JOBY 2)The 3k model, just the legs, that support up to 3kg but is made of plastic https://amzn.eu/d/1GGcgNu I am more oriented on the 5k model, for sturdiness and his bigger weight capacity to be used also on land, but I don't know how well the metal will resist the salt water For the 3k model, I fear that the less problem from corrosion, are balanced with a lighter construction and so easier to break Someone have used them underwater? I saw only this post on the forum, and not much more online, about using them underwater: @waywardriley I try to tag you, have you tried the tripod in salt water? I saw that you used it only in the pool Did it rust or had any problem? My setup look like this, and I would add the tripod on the bottom: I also saw the quad leg stabilization, but for now i think the tripod would better, being able to be folded away when not in use, and also cheaper (for the 5k I found a good used offer, and the 3k leg is around 40€)

Really good video! One thing I noticed, was the redness on some subject, caused by the camera that can't decide if balance on the subject or the background! I have the same problem, and I need to experiment a bit and turn off the torch for wider scene! Was fun to see the ray going away, and then meeting the shark and they both startled xD

Found this guy at the end of the dive, just roaming around the sand My guide told me I was really lucky, he saw it only once in 4000+ dives 😁

@Jochen how much does your setup weight, and what tripod are you using? I got this setup with a gopro, 2 torc and wet lens and it weight around 3 kg on land, and 2/300 grams underwater I got some doubt on what tripod I need to stabilize the setup underwater, and I'd like to have the most light solution

I have tried to add a bit of description on the short, I still have not decided if it's better or worse 😬

INON and AOI Wide Angle Wet Lenses for Action Cameras
Elvandar replied to Davide DB's topic in Compact System
Damn, why they had to change the mount to zd, to support the 8:7? I am interested in the glass version of the 140, but I don't like the idea that to get it, I have to change also the mount, and the 2 adaptor of the lens I already have Btw, thanks for the update @Nando Diver -
Just 2 dive light DL07 Wurkkos, no filter, recorded with log profile and then edited with DaVinci

Here another slice 😁

I have shot in 16:9 5.3k, the video is just a slice of the frame, my main focus is to make a longer 16:9 video, but I decided to post litte piece as vertical video On the final frame, i have adjusted higher the shot, but for vertical video, i left a bit of rock, that lie in the part of the social usual covered from comments and description
-
It's exported from 5.3k 16:9 native from GoPro, I think that's why 😁 I wanted to publish it as a short on YouTube, and the maximum resolution is 1080x1920, 9:16 I want to publish a longer video in a 16:9 format when I am ready 😁

I'll post here my upload from the trip, I'll appreciate suggestion to improve 😁

Love your video, welcome!

Upgrade to Gopro 13 + AOI UWL-O3 video underwater settings
Elvandar replied to Nando Diver's topic in Compact System
@Nando Diver I opted for a top float like @bghazzal suggested, the advantage being it's basically a balanced and leveled setup, but losing the compactness of the go pro Here the setup, without the torch: On the float arms, I have 3 lens holder, to put the 2 inon macro lens, plus one extra as support when i swap lens The top float was around 45$ on aliexpress -
Upgrade to Gopro 13 + AOI UWL-O3 video underwater settings

I don't have one at home, to weight luggage I use the scale xD And also with the luggage scale, you don't know the actual volume of the setup, and cannot balance perfectly for the salt water, at least if you don't do the weighting in salted water 😁 By the way, I used these calculation also because on the structural component i bougth, the only data i had was weight on land, and with the g/dm³ of the material, i calculated the volume, and subtracted the water weight for that volume. It worked first try, just 30 gr negative without even have all the pieces in hand xD For the torch, that have different density, i just used the submege and volume method -
Upgrade to Gopro 13 + AOI UWL-O3 video underwater settings
Elvandar replied to Nando Diver's topic in Compact System
@Nando Diver to know the weight underwater you can do it pretty easily: 1 - Weight it on land (I use a kitchen scales to have more precision) 2 - Submerge the piece in a graduated container, and measure the volume of the displaced water (or if you have a bigger piece of equipment , you can fill to the brim a bigger non graduated container and collect the excess water to then weight ) 3 - Weight_on_land - Displaced_water_weight = Weight_underwater_fresh You can do this piece by piece, or go for the total 4 - For salt water: Total_weight_on_land - Total_displaced_water_weight x 1.025 = Weight_underwater_salt With this method i got already some measure for you: -GoPro 11 + case underwater fresh is 40 gr (250 gr on land) (basically equal to Gp13 ) -UFL 140 SD INON (similar to Aoi lens, if you want some approssimation and do not want to weight it yourself) 153 gr underwater, fresh (300 on land) By the way, your objective is to reach a perfectly neutral setup? I started with this idea, but ended with a slightly negative setup, and with that I improved stability of the video -
So the polishing works, at least for the underwater footage! Good to know! But I still did not understand if you used the polish number 2 after the number 3 or you skipped the passage because it was good enough for you and you did not want to risk more
-
Really good try, but in your comment you said that you used the number 1, then 2 and last number 3, but in the video I saw, usually for deeper scratch they start from numer 3, and go down to 2 and 1 to finish the polish, you did not mention this passage, did you do it, and did not write it in the comment? Here a good guide on it, even if I am not sure 10/20 second can remove the scratch, it's probably more in line with your timing, if you don't use a dremel or similar. Let me know, I am really curious, since I also have the swapped lens, and if this method works, and I am unlucky enough to scratch it again, I could try the polish way.

And you also already bough the Novus kit! Polish it for science!
-
Useless just because they used it with the backscatter kit, and they suggest to zoom in the image, the inon g55 have a bigger magnification, and I use it without the zoom. By the way, seems like one more time, that it's a function bound to the go pro 13 only and their proprietary lens, just to sell more of the "new" GoPro 13 that is basically identical to the 10, 11 and 12 in the sensor and processor

There is also a neoprene cover for the inon lens, I bought it after the repair, you could also make one yourself with some extra neoprene, or search a similar one, the inon lens is a bit smaller than the aoi, i don't know if it would fit. I bring it underwater and remove it only after the the first dive check, to avoid new scratch while not having the camera as main focus. https://www.fotosub-shop.com/3617-inon-inon-cover-neoprene-per-ufl-g140sd.html

Will check if they add the option also on the gopro 12 firmaware, I won't upgrade Edit: I checked the firmware note, but did not find the macro option, it is still on github?

Hi, in the cave lake where we dive regularly, there are some sign to guide among the submerged "Attaction", cars, motorboat, ecc... like these: null But there are some of them that are not readable anymore, because they faded after years underwater. The faster way to make them readable is to change them, but out of curiosity, i searched online for a solution to write underwater, and i found these markers: Sakura Solid Marker Original - Suitup - Art Supplies (suitupshop.it) Do anyone have ever tried them or similar product? Except from the trusty pencil, did you use anything else? I bought them anyway, if they are not usable for the underwater writing, I will still use them to decorate my white fins 😁

Well, the functionality exist, so, if GoPro will make it avaible with official firmware or Labs firmware outside their macro lens use, I'd like to try it, to see firsthand if it's good.
