Video light for gopro 12
Elvandar replied to Gmsalterego's topic in GoPro, Compact, Smartphones and Gadgets
- @Gmsalterego Ask for a good, powerful and hopefully not very expensive video lamp: - @Elvandar : Suggest a cheap ass torch, not that bad (45€) - @Wags & @Proteus: Suggest a really good torch but (~600€+) @Gmsalterego give us your budget and what you consider "not very expensive" 😆 By the way, all my video on my youtube, are shot with GoPro 11/12 and those 45€ torch, so if you are not a professional, or really into the hobby, you don't need to spend too much to get an ok result. But if you go for a 600€ source of light because you like taking video, you should maybe consider to change also the camera 😁 But also, I should not question these decision, as i bought almost 1000€ in wet lens for my gopro 🙃 -
Video light for gopro 12

I use 2 of these Wurkkos DL07 torch : Torcia elettrica anfibia Wurkkos DL07 For night dives, where they are my only source of light, I love them, and also when you have to go into macro, or smaller subject. For wider shot, I would not recommend them, you will most likely need to spend more. PRO: -Cheap -Last two 1h dives without problem -They need just one 26650 battery, so you can buy two, and swap between dives (they cost ~5€ each) -Good 120 degree light angle -Small and weight only ~300 grams, perfect for travel -Ball head included in the package -Feels solid -Have also Red, Ultraviolet and SpotLight mode CONS: -Useless on wider scene or if there is too much light (but to overcome these problem, i think you need to spend a lot on light) -People will thanks you a lot for blinding them underwater 😅 -The magnetic ring that control wich mode you use, sometimes is hard to turn Here a night dive where my source of light was them (and a bit of torch from my buddys): -
@Luko google translate will work for me, thanks!

Today arrived the first piece of the solution i want to try, the joby 5k pro legs, this is what i am working with for now: Feels super stable. In the next days I'll receive the ball head and try it with all the gear on, but for now i am happy Pro: super stable, it could support way more weight on land, and even more underwater (future upgrade to a camera) Cons: My GoPro lost again a bit of portability 😅 At least i am happy that i got a ball head with quick release, so i can remove the tripod legs also underwater really fast, while being securely attached the rest of the time

This was the G55, but as Humu noticed, being a super macro, have two problem to consider: Every small movement of the camera, will be enlarged on the video, that's why I decided to buy a tripod and try this way. Another aspect of the G55, Is the depth of field that is just from 4.8 to 6.2 cm (1.9 - 2.4 In), so you need to go really intimate with your subject. When you are able to overcome these 2 problem, it gives you footage from your GoPro, that I would never have think possible. G100 is a bit easier and forgiving, having a DOF from 7 to 15.2 cm (2.8 - 6 In) but also has a lager fov of 90°, while the G55 has 45°. This fov difference, allow the G55 to have a 2x zoom Vs the G100. For this video, I used the G165, that lose another 2x Vs the G100, but is even easier to use (10 - 35 cm) because the subject was big enough (10 cm~) and I did not had time to change the lens, because my guide literally came back free diving to take me out of the water 😂 I made him a bit angry, I had to offer a drink 🫣

Yes @PeterN, all thanks to the Inon wet lens I use the G140, G165 and G55

Initially I mistaken it for a leopard flounder, but while editing I saw the absence of the fin, and I am pretty sure now that it is a Moses sole Can someone confirm? 😬

We are planning for August 2025 a trip in Madagascar, in the Nosy Be Island, and I would much appreciate suggestion or trip report if someone has already went there!

Destination, Resort, Dive Guide and Critter-Spotter Recommendations
Elvandar replied to TimG's topic in Trip Reports & Travel
For Red Sea: Dahab Just got back from it, trip in november, perfect temperature, not too hot outside (30 with no humidity), 24/25 in the water We stayed in Tropitel Dahab Oasis (https://maps.app.goo.gl/yndb9EEkQF8T2kzN9) that is literally an oasis at the base of the costal mountain. The dive center is inside the resort, Lagona Divers Dahab North (https://maps.app.goo.gl/grTQ9VqZFX8G77Mm8) The most famous dive there is the near Blue Hole, with the arch, for technical divers (-54m), but there is a lot of other site really good that deserve a visit, like the canyon, the caves, ecc... All the dives sites except one, are reached with cars, and the entrance are from shore. We had the chance to have a juicy drink and mango right after the nigth dive in the center of Dahab, a really cool experience 😁 The city center is easily reached in 10 minutes with taxy, and is always full of life and has a lot to offer. Suggested to go in low season if possible, to avoid having to much divers around, november was perfect Recommended, if interested, you can ask me more info! -
@Jochen Cool! Wich gorillapod do you have? it's with abs or aluminium legs?
-
I totally missed the lobster, a whole one too 😆 It's like this one I posted with the cleaning shrimp on the mooray, and my friend did not saw them until I told him 😁 https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCFptQJtFYV/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== In his defense, I should reupload it with a better framing and quality, this was from the phone With "the crocodile", you mean a crocodile fish, or an actual crocodile?
-
There is a lot about the tripod made with clamps and arms, but i don't see much about flexible tripod The only example is from Jochen, but the tripod is cut out And also, the tripod I was looking is not DIY, that's why I made another post in another section 😁

I could use this tube grip, that I had from when I tried to use it to attach the GoPro on a torch to have an ultra compact setup (didn't work, too wobbly 😂) But I have to find a different attachment option for the GoPro on the tray to use this, now it is bolted down and I need 5 minute to detach it 😂
-
I would have to completely change how I attach the gopro to the tray, but the weight from the pocket seems interesting Looking forward to get your mate solution photo
-
@TimG I created a dedicated post to get suggestion for the tripod, I will consider the weight problem, after so much calculation I have done to go neutral bouyant, I am now starting to go on the negative side 😅 I'll just have to remove the top float arm to get a less bulky setup and +800 grams if needed
-
As in the title, I am searching for a tripod for my setup, for now I am evaluating 2 models from Joby: 1) The 5k model, that can support up to 4 kg and is made of aluminium Gorillapod 5K Video Pro Kit per Video Professionali | JOBY 2)The 3k model, just the legs, that support up to 3kg but is made of plastic https://amzn.eu/d/1GGcgNu I am more oriented on the 5k model, for sturdiness and his bigger weight capacity to be used also on land, but I don't know how well the metal will resist the salt water For the 3k model, I fear that the less problem from corrosion, are balanced with a lighter construction and so easier to break Someone have used them underwater? I saw only this post on the forum, and not much more online, about using them underwater: @waywardriley I try to tag you, have you tried the tripod in salt water? I saw that you used it only in the pool Did it rust or had any problem? My setup look like this, and I would add the tripod on the bottom: I also saw the quad leg stabilization, but for now i think the tripod would better, being able to be folded away when not in use, and also cheaper (for the 5k I found a good used offer, and the 3k leg is around 40€)
-
Really good video! One thing I noticed, was the redness on some subject, caused by the camera that can't decide if balance on the subject or the background! I have the same problem, and I need to experiment a bit and turn off the torch for wider scene! Was fun to see the ray going away, and then meeting the shark and they both startled xD
-
Found this guy at the end of the dive, just roaming around the sand My guide told me I was really lucky, he saw it only once in 4000+ dives 😁
-
@Jochen how much does your setup weight, and what tripod are you using? I got this setup with a gopro, 2 torc and wet lens and it weight around 3 kg on land, and 2/300 grams underwater I got some doubt on what tripod I need to stabilize the setup underwater, and I'd like to have the most light solution
-
I have tried to add a bit of description on the short, I still have not decided if it's better or worse 😬
-
Damn, why they had to change the mount to zd, to support the 8:7? I am interested in the glass version of the 140, but I don't like the idea that to get it, I have to change also the mount, and the 2 adaptor of the lens I already have Btw, thanks for the update @Nando Diver

Just 2 dive light DL07 Wurkkos, no filter, recorded with log profile and then edited with DaVinci

Here another slice 😁

I have shot in 16:9 5.3k, the video is just a slice of the frame, my main focus is to make a longer 16:9 video, but I decided to post litte piece as vertical video On the final frame, i have adjusted higher the shot, but for vertical video, i left a bit of rock, that lie in the part of the social usual covered from comments and description
