Hi all,

A quick follow up to my last post on the EMWL - this time I’m after some advice on the reverse viewfinder!

Some background. I've been keen on super macro for the last few years and have a Sony A7RV with 90mm with several diopters. My housing and rig is all Nauticam. I had the original 45 degree Nauticam viewfinder (1:1) which I replaced last year when I upgraded from my Sony A7III to the A7RV, purchasing the 45 degree, 40 0.8:1 newer viewfinder, on the basis it would provide more corner sharpness and mean less having to squint into the corners to see my settings.

Last month I borrowed an EMWL setup which I've now decided to purchase (with 60 & 160 degree objective lenses) along with yet another viewfinder (45 degree EMWL reverse) - I tried the EMWL relay and just find it too cumbersome. My local Nauticam distributor (who is also into macro/super macro) said I should consider the viewfinder in a 1:1 configuration, rather than the 0.8:1 on the basis that these new viewfinders work for all new mirrorless cameras and of course it will be a slightly higher magnification. I don't doubt he’s right, in that the 1:1 will give me more maginification and that I will still be able to see all my settings, but I thought the whole idea of the 0.8:1's was that you didn’t need to squint into the corners to see everything.

Personally I’ve not seen a massive difference between my old 1:1 viewfinder on my Sony A7III v my new 0.8:1 viewfinder on my A7RV, but it was a couple of years between using each of them (Covid). If I was swapping between them from one dive to the next, I dare said I’d notice.

Having spent many thousand's of $$$'s on this hobby - and yet more on this EMWL setup - I figured it was worth reaching out to get people’s view!

I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks,

Paul
