Hello,

It is Val from Diver's Lens YouTube Channel.

I am filming UW life in tropical destinations, mainly in South-East Asia.

My current camera is Sony camcorder PXW-Z90 with Gates housing.

I am planning to upgrade to Sony FX3 with Nauticam housing and a monitor (probably Weefine WED-7 Ext. Monitor).  If you have any experience with FX3 or WED-7 Ext. Monitor please let me know.

Thank you,

Val

Hi Val, welcome onboard, good to have you here and hope you find the site useful.  Probably best to ask the tech questions in the video forum, not everyone looks through the intro forum.

Welcome Val - Really curious as to your experience with the FX3 when you do upgrade - I have my eyes on the crop-sensor version, the APS-C FX30, but it's just a distant pipedream for now financially.

Really looking to some feedback on the FX3 manual WB at depth and also autofocus tracking, which, after shooting in manual for a while, I've become strongly interested in for black-water type scenarios (small critters moving unpredictably in the water column).

cheers

Thank you. I’ve already asked.

Hi Ben, based on my experience with Sony PXW-Z90, autofocus works very well, but for macro I often switch to Manual.

Thank you,

Val

Thanks Val.
Looking forward to your feedback on the FX3.

I shoot macro/super macro in manual as well, but for blackwater-type video I'm finding it very difficult to handle small critters moving in an out of the focal range - it's too fast to make adjustments manually - if the critter is slow enough you can follow with your elbows using peaking, but in and out movement is often erratic, so that's left me longing for some AF tracking, which puts on the Sony/Canon trail 😄

It sounds right regarding the blackwater videos, but I do not have satisfactory experience with BW yet.  I hope to have a better success with FX3 at 120 fps.
