Hey Geoff

This has come up many times and it's worth doing a search on our pages.

Many people suggest checking out your home insurance first to see what that covers - and doesn't cover!

Years ago I used to use these guys: https://www.divemasterinsurance.com/our-history/ for my equipment who I found good although costs can be high. Essentially you are insuring money.

Check out DAN for travel insurance.

High end credit cards include $10k travel insurance. It is a valuable perk and worth exploring.

A camera rider on your home insurance may be best way to insure photo gear. I pay about $250 a year for $25k non-itemized coverage.

whatever you do read the fine print, you often need to specify high value items as the value of individual items is limited often to a relatively low value and a great many policies will exclude water damage to electronics.

Also any advice is country specific, you can only buy insurance for gear in your country of residence and for example credit card based insurance will have different T&Cs in different countries and home insurance may be a good option in the USA but not in the UK, the devil is in the details and unfortunately buried deep within the terms and conditions document.
