Housing Lanyards
This might also be your friend, though I guess for most of underwater uses, polyester will probably be the best choice. https://www.paracord.eu/what-is-ppm-cord

Housing Lanyards
You are back in Europe now, and continental one at that. Time to stop with this silliness 😂 Hmm depends on the way you knot/tie it really, in addition to the thickness of the cord. I think I've used maybe 1.5m+ or so (lanyard length 29-30cm) but then mine is quite thick and and not as fine as Tim's one for example. Anyways, those cords are cheap and come in variety of flavors, including various strengths, and you will always find some use in diving for the remaining one 😉 Looking at my old order confirmation I've used the one below - complete overkill with a tensile strength of 1202 kg...it was originally destined to be part of a reef hook... https://www.paracord.de/battlecord-neon-orange

Scamming Attempt
I would actually put those in bold - messaging with some sudden offer and then passing off to a third party ("contact him/her on email [email protected]" style) is a favorite modus operandi of scumbags lately. Sometimes they even claim to be passing you to some dive center or other entity, as that sounds more legit, but upon closer inspection email address will have nothing to do with said dive center (which might exist). Be very vary of payment requests via places that do not offer any buyer protection at all like Zelle (popular in US), Western Union or scammers favorite, giftcards (often Apple ones) - the latter is more or less a guarantee that you are being scammed. Also be on alert when you are receiving "stories" especially when asking for more details, photos etc when somebody starts writing you whole paragraphs of excuses involving death in the family, sick mother, money for the surgery etc.

Otherwise, as noted by @kallebumba, paracord.eu is your friend - below DYI lanyard used with NA-OM1, XDeep compact boltsnaps. Not the prettiest but works like a charm. Same material is great for reef hooks as well.

Retra Strobes Pros & Cons
EDIT: Aaaand @Barmaglot beat me by 10 seconds 😉 Hmm so let's stir the hornets nest... Ignoring your user and post history, and the fact that your posts strongly remind me of corporate marketing materials. Certainly a good idea to have a leakage detector but not a must have for a strobe. And do you have any proof for those "countless of users" being saved? Again, interesting feature, but not a must have - strobe "tech" world moves at a snail pace and does not necessarily requires monthly updates (providing solid QA and testing at development stage bug wise) And this is coming from a software update freak 😉 So a few diffusers and a fancy snoot, about the same can be had from any other manufacturer. Now this made me laugh - every strobe sold in EU comes with a 2 year warranty as a minimum. Without any gimmicks like needing to install an app or register anywhere (rather illegal under EU law...FYI showing end user prices in a webshop without tax included is also illegal in EU...) . Now sure, this is different outside EU but again, Retra claims to be European manufacturer, so it would do to follow European rules, right ? Cannot comment on customer support but the one case that was widely discussed here left a rather peculiar taste in my mouth - all Retra replies reminded be of corporate twisting the words so any issues becomes your issues and management is never at fault. But then again maybe I am just overly sensitive to corporate nonsense. Educate me please. Again, I would be more than keen to learn - I am not discarding Retra because it is a bad strobe, but certainly pricing seems out of hand, hence if there are "clear and significant" differences that justify this price, do let everybody know. Not sure what does it mean "fit well with their equipment" - surely one can use Ikelite strobe regardless of housing brand ? I agree lack of fiber optic port is certainly a drawback for majority of the users probably, but this is not something that is "un-fixable" - quite the opposite, adapter solves the issue. And even with the additional cost of it we are still below single Retra price (at possibly better performance light wise) Also in one post you praise Ikelite and compare to Retra and in another, not? What you posted on page 3:

Subtronic Strobes
Thanks! Now this looks ingenious indeed, especially the use of the existing sensor xD But the tube looks neat, better that the converter sticking out a mile long.

Subtronic Strobes
Hmm works fine here? (image below, for some reason its always at the bottom of the post) Thanks. Yeah saw those on Subtronic page, but they look like big things sticking out once connected to the port....was wondering if there is some other way 😉 (image for Tim's reply)

Adobe sued by FTC over misleading fees and preventing customers from easily cancelling subscriptions
Yaaar! Getting rid of annoying activation mechanism preventing you from using legally owned software is a basic human right 😉 Or alternatively some seem to have had luck installing Win 10, activating CS6 and then upgrading to 11. Apparently activation state persists. Guess its another attempt by Adobe to kill the remaining perpetual licenses and force the CC upon them.

Real insider tip then 😉 Any chance you have pics after the mod ? Curious how it looks. I have also found the below, unsure how it attaches though. https://heinrichsweikamp.com/index.php/accessories/digital-adapter.html

Mexico Underwater Camera "Tax" spread to Cancun
Seems you are the first reporting this in Cancun, but based on previous posts here the infection has also spread to Mexico City as well (i.e one could previously fly there, and then take domestic to Cabo, effectively dodging Cabo customs).

Subtronic Strobes
...Retra entered the room 🤣 o_0...does that technician have a website ? Mod Q: Maybe we should split these posts into a Subtronic specific thread? Just not to litter @DreiFish strobe comparison 😉

Subtronic Strobes
Well manufacturer having a website in English would maybe help to spread the word, otherwise it's a Germ secret 😉 ... Like Heinrichs Weikamp - your average non-Germ diver (especially non-European one) has never even heard the name or knows that they do dive computers 😂 These do look fancy, curious indeed how they compare especially that often specs seem to quite a very low guide number, for example 270W power but only 22 GN - could this be measured in water vs in air for others ? Suffers from integrated battery with proprietary charger and lack of built in fiber optic connector though - need a special optical adapter it seems. EDIT: Found an inside picture and maybe batteries can at least be changed by the user (i.e no battery pack per se; if not soldered) - question is how easy it is to take this apart without sending for service.

Adobe sued by FTC over misleading fees and preventing customers from easily cancelling subscriptions
Yeah I know, totally unexpected 😂 Was just browsing some IT news and lo and behold, Adobe seems to be having a great month: First, in addition to them basically having a license to use your cloud stored works in any way and profit from it, they now added machine learning usage to their license, of course without an opt out, in a classic Adobe style. Secondly, they have now been sued by FTC in USA over misleading fees and hard to cancel subscriptions - US folks might want to watch that one, in case of any settlement. A few links below: FTC - "FTC Takes Action Against Adobe and Executives for Hiding Fees, Preventing Consumers from Easily Cancelling Software Subscriptions" https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/06/ftc-takes-action-against-adobe-executives-hiding-fees-preventing-consumers-easily-cancelling NY Times - "U.S. Sues Adobe Over Hard-to-Cancel Subscriptions" https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/17/technology/us-adobe-subscription-lawsuit.html The Stack - "Adobe joins Microsoft in admitting it's now basically spyware" https://www.thestack.technology/adobe-joins-microsoft-in-admitting-its-now-basically-spyware/ -Gamers Nexus - "US Sues Adobe Over Consumer Protection" Louis Rossmann (on FTC lawsuit) - "Adobe gets sued by FTC for roofying customers with hidden fees; GOOD! " Louis Rossmann (on machine learning and new license) - "Adobe roofies all of their customers"

RETRA Lithium-Ion Battery Pack
Closer to 1000 USD for a pair...they continue posting their prices ex-VAT so add 20% on average, at least for EU folks. Bullseye. Considering their pricing (like flagship model costing more or less an equivalent of 4 Inon S-220 strobes) one would expect a design allowing for usage of Li-Ion batteries out of the box. Or improving the power efficiency of the strobes in a first place.... But instead there is a half a grand "solution" that seems to double the size of the strobe. Yikes.

Tiny concealed gem: Providencia Island, Caribbean
Ha, great report, did not even know such island exists xD Flight wise, might want to look at FRA - "only" 18/19h to San Andres (via BOG/LHR) and so well timed that you land in early morning, depart early evening - meaning can pull Providencia flight the very same day - no need for hotels in Bogota/San Andres and you get there in 1 day more or less. With a bit of luck baggage will too 😉
