  1. For Sale

Hi everyone, Due to unexpected family commitments, I unfortunately have to give up my upcoming reservation at Misool Eco Resort in Raja Ampat. If you…

  2. Hope you had a good trip to Moalboal and Malapascua. These are actually my two favorite places to dive in Philippines despite it being a little touristy. The new shark spots at Kimud is even better than the old one and the sharks are amazing. I also really enjoyed Moalboal for the sardines, again despite that it can be a circus wit the snorkelers and divers but it's still really cool.
  3. I also got pretty excited when I first heard of Mikomoto diving with the chance to see the school of hammerheads so close to home (Hong Kong) and went ahead last year to make bookings for a two day dive. In the end it was cancelled due to an incoming typhoon so didn't go in the end. After reading and doing more research and talking to more people who have been, many shares the same experience as some of you guys here who said they either didn't see anything or saw just a few hammers in pretty bad condition (high current, finning non stop, sometimes 5-6 vis, strict 35 min dive, cold). The commentary is that the hammers are there, but they like the warm Kushiro current which brings them there, but the current can vary where it is in distance from Mikomoto and with visibility so low, they might be 20-30 meters away and you will miss them easily. I have since given up on planning a trip there after hearing this year, the Kushiro current is flowing even farther from the island and the probability is even lower to see them. I have yet to run into one diver in HK who has successfully seen them. YMMV Btw - if you are interested in diving in the area, the diving just nearby in Tateyama is quite interesting at Ito Bommie with its famed Sharknado. But that's a different topic and if interested, can share in a separate post.
  4. Maybe replying a bit late to the topic. I live in HK and dive there a lot. It's not comparable to indo, Philippines in terms of fish life and visibility but it's still worth going out to Sai Kung (HK's back yard) with its mountains and ocean. In terms of outfit, you can look for reliable operator like Diving Adventure and Diving Express which organize fixed schedule fun dives from their large boats (usually on weekends though).
  5. Hi - my name is Jason and I have been diving for 20 years and am also an avid photographer on land and underwater. I have been using Olympus TG camera for a few generations and like its flexibility and ease of handling, along with a couple strobes (Inon and Sea & Sea) as well as macro and wide angle wet lenses. Being from Hong Kong, I have been diving mostly in Asia and my favorite diving spots are Komodo and Raja Ampat, as I love that I can shoot macro on one dive and get some really amazing and colorful corals on the wide angle on the next. I don't see a lot of Hong Kong members here so if you have any questions about Hong Kong diving, feel free to PM me. I have dived extensively in the (relatively speaking) cold and at times murky waters in Hong Kong to looks for weird soft corals and little critters (including the occasional frog fish and blue ring octopus - usually once every couple years lol).
