  1. I saw you have a photo of the Antipathella wollastoni. Is it deep? What's the name of that eels into the sand? I'm a fan of Rafa Herrero's video. Once he was a member of Wetpixel. I still remember his Bajo de Las Gerardias video.
  2. Wow! Is it mostly fish or even coral reef?
  3. I don't know. 24-70 mm F2.8 is the cheapest option for sure and you already have the port. Maybe you can find someone who can lend you the lens. Canon EF lens are very common. MWL-1 route is really expensive and I don't know if things will improve. Maybe there is some member who use it? Try a forum search for "MWL-1" and ask there.
  4. Full specifications of the AOI UWL-03 PRO lens for Action cameras https://www.aoi-uw.com/products/wet-lenses/aoi-uwl-03pro.html Good news is that it's just 23 grams heavier than the previous version (still in production) Bad news is a little bird told me that it will costs about 450€. But it's made of glass: 4 Elements in 4 Groups. All Glass Elements with Multi-layers AR Coating. Optical Grade Glass Dome Lens with Inner Surface Multi-layers AR Coating
  5. I am not aware of any lenses and domes or wet lenses that would allow you to work with those apertures. I've shot some clips at F2.8 but it was to get a creative shot on a subject very close in focus and a very thin depth of field. The first three clip of the trailer on my channel (algae, anemone and Posidonia) are shot at F2.8 and the like on a M43 PanaLeica 8-18mm f/2.8-4.0 and a 9" Aquatica glass dome. https://youtu.be/LJEuuY532Kg?si=CRdOmC4B8dghqCDS IMO you cannot go below F8. On my WWL-1 on M43 Sometime I work at F5.6 but M43 has a smaller sensor.
  6. David Salvatori was a well-known and much-loved Italian underwater photographer in the Italian photography community. Sadly, David passed away now more than two years ago and his friends still post his uw photos and memories of him on social networks. He had discovered with others the uniqueness of Numana and coined the expression (later misused) “Numana the Italian Lembeh.” Numana has become famous among Italian photographers for the abundance of nudibranchs in its waters. But beware, for most of the year it is in almost zero visibility. The richness of the sediments in these waters combined with the partly rocky bottom are perhaps the reasons for the abundance of nudibranchs. You are not the only one who has been intrigued by this site. I will try to write something about Numana and the Strait of Messina (personally the most beautiful place in Italy) for the benefit of all Waterpixels members. No problem, I posted you the video of the wreck only as an example. If a wreck is completely covered with soft corals as if it were a wall, imagine real walls! I, during the 1990s had become addicted to Port Cros Marine Park. Every year I would go once or twice and a couple of times on a liveaboard. let's see if some French and Spanish members give us direct info.
  7. Do you remember or you can check on your files which aperture did you used?
  8. Why don't you give us your personal preferences on dive spots and diving center in Costa Brava? It's time to create some area specific subforums. Stay tuned 😉
  9. From the UK certainly the cheapest destination is Malta. Malta and Gozo have had a huge boom for diving. For historical reasons so many instructors have moved here from UK. Despite this there does not seem to me to be much to see underwater, wrecks aside. Those at recreational depths are all artificial reefs while the historical and best ones are all in the technical diving zone. Instead for marine biology there are two places (Spain and France) that are outstanding even in winter. Both are very famous marine parks. IIRC Port Cros Marine Park I believe is the oldest marine park in Europe. https://xray-mag.com/content/medas-islands https://destination.portcros-parcnational.fr/en If you search on social networks or YouTube you find thousands of results. Some time ago @jpiovano posted a beautiful video of one of the most famous wrecks in the area that is completely covered with soft corals. It's a little bit deep but believe me there are amazing walls and shoals even at rec depths. Well, actually this is considered recreational in this part of the Med 😉 For Costa Brava just check this video to have a feeling of what to expect for soft corals. We have several French and Spanish members, maybe they can give you more accurate informations. Ciao
  10. Welcome aboard! Where have you been? 😄
  11. We should find someone who use it and give us a proper feedback, Like finding a unicorn i guess 🙂
  12. The only guy I found using Gh7 posts every week several BWand macro photo but, as usual, I couldn't get useful feeback from him via FB. The dual gain tech was already implemented in the GH5S and IIRC comes from Panasonic Varicam cine line and again from Arri.
  13. Or lakes 😈
  14. This is it at last! Great achievement Ben. When the tests are over I want to pin this thread. A sheet of Lee gel also costs only 10€ and you are basically good for a lifetime. Also many cinema services give away the test swatchbooks and each filter is surely enough for at least two Gopros. It would be interesting to see the results in other seas from other members with GoPros. I hope to try it with my GH5 as well. Edit: the lee 008 Dark Salmon seems to give its best deeper
  15. I think we're going a bit far with the language, and it's getting out of hand for everyone, including me. I don't think I'm a robot, capable of being 100% user or 100% moderator. That's not how it work. I'm just a regular person who contributes with their own experiences to the forum. I wasn't trying to be rude, and I didn't think my post was rude. I was just trying to show sympathy for your post, which was written in a funny way. Regarding the original question, several users answered that they always hold it for various reasons, including dive safety and the fear of ruining or losing it. Perhaps Dave was more direct, but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. That's it.
  16. Guys, come on! Can't you argue over a lanyard? Let's avoid getting personal.
  17. On another forum arose a discussion around the new iPhone 16 and its amazing photo/video features, which I think may be of interest here as well. Basically, many people wondered how it is possible for a phone to do things that even a top-of-the-line mirrorless camera can't do. A very expensive phone sure, but 1500€ is a fraction of the cost of a top-of-the-line camera that can go up to 5000€. So what? Conspiracy theories and even the suspicion of Canon's famous cripple hammer returns. In reality, the devil is in the details. Number of iPhones sold worldwide in 2023: 231 million units Number of cameras sold worldwide in 2023: Canon … 3.34 million units (46.5%) Sony … 2 million units (27.9%) Nikon … 810,000 units (11.3%) Fujifilm … 430,000 units (6.0%) Panasonic … 260,000 units (3.6%) OM Digital … 180,000 units (2.5%) Ricoh Imaging … 60,000 units (0.8%) Source R&D costs are scary and the number of units sold is the only way to deal with them and maintain revenue margins. I for one was shocked to read the numbers. Nikon sold 800k cameras worldwide so the figure should be divided among all models. I don't understand Japanese so I don't know what range of cameras the statistic includes. Bye
  18. I felt the same way until I irretrievably scratched my WWL-B which crawled on the bottom and banged on the rocks while I saved physical and mental energy by fluttering naively on the reef.
  19. The forum in itself doesn't have this feature but if you are browsing it via a classic Web browser you can save the link/url in your browser's favourite list. Maybe you could create a dedicated folder.
  20. Of the two, one. You can't have a long lanyard and expect that if you're with your belly 20cm from the bottom, your camera won't drag on the bottom. So it's normal that you have to hold it with at least one hand. Then when you are photographing, the natural position is as Dave described.
  21. On my last dive, I had to skip filming because the reef wasn't in great shape. I didn't get anything! So, just for fun, I tried the MWB at 17 meters with no lights on my dive buddy, who was totally game. I'd say that at this depth, with the conditions being what they were (very murky and green water), my GH5M2 was pushing its limits. I think with a bit more clear water, I could have got some better shots. I'd really love to see what happens with a Canon or a Sony in the same conditions, but I don't think I'll ever know! This test really shows how much the environment (and the sensor) affect the final results! It's a circle shots, and colors changes with the sun position and in the clip, there was still a bit of a purple tone on top. It would have helped to work more on it, but time just flew by. The flickering at the bottom is from the thermocline. I tried to wait for some fish to swim by, but no luck! The camera was perfectly neutral, and I tried taking a selfie, but it wasn't quite what I was hoping for 😁 Yes the final shitty look is desaturated.

  22. I didn't even suspect its existence. Try them and tell us if they work!
  23. Given that you are working with 2 lights very near to the subject (basically a lightbox) you could work with a very low power. Another solution would be having an on camera small light to spot critters and turning on the main lights only when framing focusing and filming.
  24. Gopro labs software for GP13 is out. There are a couple of interesting additions for underwater shooting: Added DIVE=1 - optimizing the Hypersmooth stabilization for underwater. The water refractive index defaults to 1.335 (good for fresh and command salt water), if you know your area RI is significantly different DIVE=r where r can be 1.3 to 1.45 is supported. Added WARM=x and COOL=x to offset white balance. WARM is good to use with DIVE, so you can improve the red respond for deeper dives. https://gopro.github.io/labs/control/notes/
  25. I know that Saga makes an adapter ring to use a Sea&Sea port on a Nauticam housing. https://sagadive.com/en/producto/aro-de-extension-adaptador-seasea-nauticam/
