New Nauticam 29 port for Panasonic 14-42mm PZ could be a blast for 4K video shooters

  1. I think the 14mm is too short for the 29 port and as the glass moves away from the lens it could both vignette and degrade image quality. You probably need an even shorter port for the 14mm. Using the zoom on the 14-42mm is actually a great way to leverage the lens as it becomes eventually rectilinear

Definitely, the 14mm needs the pancake port N10 (#36151)

  2. I had not seen the new pancake port. I don't have the 14mm the resolution of this lens looking at some tests is average and actually worse than the kit lens. The lens is only one stop faster so not really on my radar

  3. Nauticam lists the N10 pancake port for the Panasonic 14mm with the WWL.

  4. As I said I wouldn't bother with that lens it perform worse than the zoom lens and is only one stop brighter

True, just took a look on the lenstip test, far from amazing... The 1.7/15mm is somewhat better, I don't know how much FOV is lost at 15mm, compared to 14.

  6. I just finished doing a few tests with this port

The field of view is obviously not as wide as the 8mm fisheye but corners at f/4 much better.

Furthermore the WWL-1 does not vignette with the Panasonic 12-32mm lens giving in excess of 135 degrees. I would recommend this lens with the Macro Port 29 to all GH4 video shooters as an alternative to the 7-14mm lens when coupled to the Inon UWL-100 wet lens. Obviously you can use the WWL-1 but it won't be rectilinear

Hello, firstly sorry my bad English, I hope that you can understand me.

I have an EM-1 on Nauticam housing and for Wide angle I have an Oly 9-18mm + 4" dome, but I´m not happy with corners and FOV.

I was thinking to change to Panasonic 14-42 PZ + Macro port 29 + WWL-1 or Panasonic 7-14 with 6" dome.

However I read in you blog that Pana 14-42 II Mega + port35 is better than 14-42 PX + port 29, all right?

I also have an Inon 28LD UWL-H100 II + Dome. Is it compatible using M67-28LD adapter with macro port 35 + panasonic 14-42 II - mega OIS?

What setup has the bigger FOV, what is the better choice for me?

    Thanks

    Sorry again my terrible English.

  8. I'm also going down the road of the 14-42MM (either the PZ or the II) and WWL - instead of my current 7-14mm and my 170mm dome. Main benefit for me, isn't just the sharper corners - but we gain some OIS and also more flexibility while diving.

I'm not decided on which one to go for (as I already have the 14-42mm PZ lens but conversely I have the 35mm port for the 14-42mm II, which I don't have!) decisions!!

  9. Richards,

I think you need to consider Mega OIS vs Power OIS on the 14-42 lens first. I don't know how useable is Mega OIS when shooting video. I tried the 14-42pz when I rented the GH4 housing to test out, it's barely stable.

  10. The mega OIS works better than the power zoom in terms of stabiliser which is weird. The power zoom has sudden vibrations and shake at the long end sometimes that the cheaper lens doesn't have. You go figure!

  11. I think I'll have to get hold of a 14-42mm II off the eBay and compare.

It's very weird. Seems Panasonic gave us a very good quality kit lens in the II version.

  12. The mega OIS takes good images and is much sharper at the 42mm end

In general in the centre the two lense are equivalent but as you zoom the power zoom resolution drops. The power zoom is also much weaker in corners but this does not effect 4K video on the GH4/GX8 as this gets cropped out

  13. Hello

sory if it is mentioned before in the forum but may be i mised it

Will the WWL work with the olympus 12 50 lens 'n the Nauticam N85 Macro Port /

will it vignate at the 12 end

Thanks and happy healthy new year to all

  14. There is a part 83215 that allows the bayonet system on the macro port m77 36131. Vignetting varies the wet lens is optimised for use at 28mm equivalent

  15. This combo does vignette at 12mm, but it is gone by the time you zoom out to 16mm.

  16. Thanks a lot for the answers....sory im so new in photo camera filming, so may be my questions doesnt make much sense.......So the Pana 14-42 II Mega + port35 seems the widest option without any vignating....And as it is mentioned above, how come the 12 32 lens does not vignate but the 12 50 does...The 12 50 would be so good with its macro obtion on itself but ofcourse vignating is not good

    Thanks

  17. Nauticam suggest to use the WWL with the M77 macro port but I use the 12-50 in the macro port 65 and the lens is very close to the glass (I have to take the UV filter off to get it in!). Has anyone tried this combo with the WWL?

  18. I'd love to hear about anyone's experience with the [Olympus 12-50 plus WWL-1], especially how the image quality compares to the [Panasonic 14-42 lenses plus WWL-1] (apart from the vignetting of course).

Interesting to read Interceptor's observations that the [14-42 II Mega + port 35] beats the [14-42 PZ + port 29] for OIS and corner sharpness. But am I right in thinking that a mod to enable manual focus would not be possible with the 14-42 II Mega? Would we be stuck with auto-focus only?

  19. Generally worse as the 12-50mm sits further away from the glass and optical quality is worse than the 14-42mm Panasonic. The pana lens has a focus ring so it would need a knob. Having said that the autofocus works pretty well and you can always focus lock on something and then move the camera.

  20. I've invested (if you call it that!) in:

    1x WWL

    1x CMC Adaptor

    1x 14-42mm II Mega

(And all the associated bayonet adaptors etc)

To replace the 7-14mm and 14-42PZ

There can't be any mod for focus for the 14-42mm II due to being a 'normal' lens. Can use the cursor buttons for manual focus thou (I think)
