New Nauticam 29 port for Panasonic 14-42mm PZ could be a blast for 4K video shooters

Good stuff thetrickster. Would be interested to hear your opinions on Mega vs. PZ image quality, OIS etc. when you've done some shooting with it.

This is a photo taken by olympus 12 50 + WWL-1 taken by a friend and the numbers are

Focal length ı: 22mm

iso : 200

it seemed quite good to me but if it is vigneting at 12 end it is not so useful for me..

.

Do you know if this combo vignates at 14 end ? Pana 14-42 II Mega + port35 + WWL-1

Thanks Lutfu. That certainly looks pretty sharp, and wider than the 12-50 at 12mm without a wet lens. But it's US$1165 for the parts to make that work, and then you've got a lens that vignettes at the wide end ... And my shopping list to switch over to a PZ 14-42mm system with WWL-1 totals US$2015! I'm going to wait and use what I've got already until I see where Panasonic goes with the GH5 etc..

I don't think [Pana 14-42 II Mega + port35 + WWL-1] vignettes, but I'm sure others will confirm that. I'm not sure.

I'm really happy with the swap from the 7-14mm / Dome to the 14-42mm II / WWL

so i think i want to go that way since i broke my 7 14 lens (on land) ,i will go for [Pana 14-42 II Mega + port35 + WWL-1] option.....

And how will this set up work for macro with +5 or + 10 macro obtions or cmc , smc?

The tests were with the power zoom and I then ran them with the mega OIS without major differences. The single Inon covers 42mm width, you need the 10 to go below the 36mm and so on

Minimum Focus Distances -at both ends of the zoom range:

14mm 8cm

14mm with INON165 4cm

14mm with CMC 1.5cm

42mm 21.5cm

42mm with INON165 7.5cm

42mm with CMC 4.5cm

The Inon lens is +7 on land but reverts to 6 in water. My tests were in water. The CMC doesn't loose power in water

Nice tests Richard. I love my CMC. My Subsees get left at home since I got mine.

I worked out the difference. Working distance on land 22cm in water becomes 29cm equivalent diopter power 3.45 plus Inon lens 6.06 total 9.51 working distance from the back 10.5 cm. I think having an Inon 165 is almost necessary otherwise you have nothing to cover working distance between 7.5 and 16.5 cm. Not all fish can be approached as close as the CMC requires to focus. With the 14-42mm lens other than a small chromatic aberration in corners that gets cropped in 4K the CMC additional power compared to two stacked Inon lenses is only 9%

I don't think I ever use my CMC for fish apart from static ones that are convinced they are invisible, or ones that are still in their eggs

For what it's worth, I just wrote a quicky review using the WWL and CMC in Oly's PT-EP12 housing. The Oly 14-42mmEZ lens fits very close to the end of the port and the lenses work quite well. Not my favorite camera, but an interesting combo that's pretty small.

Sorry for the very new account, I have been sleuthing lots of the GH4 threads for quite a while and was excited to see that this one is still fairly active and was finally tempted to make an account and get involved!

I have been a DSLR/ikelite user for a few years but I think I'm pretty set on moving across to a GH4 in the Nauticam housing for video work.

I've seen a lot of information about macro flip diopters and the WWL-1 but am unsure how they actually work during the dive. For example, would I be able to take diopters off/on during the dive, or take the WWL-1 off/on during the dive? Or do they have to be set up prior to getting in the water?

I'm mainly shooting small/medium fish with a few nudibranchs and blennies chucked in there. It would be absolutely fantastic to have a set-up where I could switch between a macro diopter and the WWL-1 during a dive. Does this exist?

If so, what lens do you recommend for this kind of video work?

They are wet-fit lenses. You can flip something small like a Nauticam CMC magnifier on a flip adaptor. The WWL-1 is too large for a flip arm so you have to fit it with the Nauticam bayonet system. Once you install that then you would also have to use the bayonet for the CMC and not be able to use the flip adaptor. You use the port alone for tightish shots, add the CMC for macro, or add the WWL-1 for wide.

You can change them during the dive. I don't know how people are storing them, especially the large WWL-1, and would be interested to know.

Yes it exists. If I was building a GH4 rig from scratch I'd buy the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Power O.I.S. Lens, 29mm port, WWL-1 and CMC. Here is a list of parts I would need to convert my existing rig which is based on completely different lenses and ports (apart from the CMC). It is very incomplete for what you need to buy from scratch but hopefullly useful as a start.
