Hey everyone, I’m looking for a solid way to mount a GoPro to my Nauticam housing—ideally bolted directly onto the dome shade for a compact and secure setup. I’ve seen adhesive mounts used, but I’d be concerned about reliability in the long run. Has anyone here found a more secure, low-profile solution? Open to any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

I know you said you wanted to mount it to your dome, but have you looked at a GoPro ball mount to see if that would work for you? I know Ultralight and Ikelite both make one.

Why not to use the cold shoe as attachment point?

I don’t think the NA-R5 housing has a cold shoe mount, but if there’s a way to add one, that could be an option.

So this is what I’m working with: an NA-R5 and a 170mm dome. I occasionally go through tight swim-throughs while freediving, so minimizing drag is important. I’m also thinking that mounting the GoPro directly on the dome will center its lens with the camera, rather than having it offset on a ball mount. If I use one and extend it toward the center of the camera, it will add to the overall size of the setup, which I’d like to avoid.

At the end of the day, a little extra drag won’t be a dealbreaker, but I wanted to see if anyone had better ideas.

Interesting that Nauticam have omitted the cold shoe and M10 mounting points, which could have been used to mount something.  You could try one of these to replace one of the ball mounts on your handle:

Then add a low profile go pro mount to that.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've been experimenting with the GoPro positioning and noticed that if it's mounted too low behind the dome, some of its vision gets blocked by the shade.

The M10 Strobe Mounting Ball https://www.nauticam.com/products/m10-strobe-mounting-ball-for-housing

This is a solution that would bring the gopro closer to the center, I would mount it the same way they do in the video, but it would need to be high enough for the full field of view.

Another Idea after browsing etsy is to get a custom made mount and bolt it on the shade.

Gopro Baseball Cap Mount - Etsy - this one might work just fine.

The cap mount certainly looks like it would work, as long as you don't mind drilling into your dome shade.  The M5 ball and a ball type go pro mount along with a clamp would allow you place the Go pro close to the axis  of the lens by leaning the clamp over at 45° .   If you want it taller or closer to centre you could use a long clamp and the height would be adjustable with either option.

This one on the shade.

I know for sure they use an original 3M adhesive which last in the long run

And it will do okay in the saltwater? I could get an additional tether just in case. This is probably the easiest idea if it will last a long time.

That's a good idea, can you recommend a brand of clamps, or is it best to stick with nauticam.

Mount your gopro to the bottom of housing using the 1/4 x 20 holes for tripod or tray use

Interesting idea. Two downsides I can think of are that it would be harder to see what the GoPro is filming and that the camera wouldn’t be able to sit properly when set down.

Nauticam clamps are good quality and a lot of people like the ULCS clamps as well.

I've seen them used in the harshest environment. I would use the original one, cleaning the surface with alcohol. And you can add a small tether for the peace of mind

I'm gonna give this a shot and see how it goes, it's a cheap solution and the easiest, if it fails in the long run ill go with the clamps. Thanks everyone!
