I'm waiting for later this year when the Pro Max III come out.

I heard a rumor that it would have Afterburners! And 16 AA Eneloops in a TurboPod!

I found you are realy negativ against the Retra strobes.. why ???

Own 2 Pro Max since 08/2024.

Briefly saying one flash is working flawless, one is from my point of view a nightmare. Causes different kind of issues since beginning. Starting that the new device stop working after approx. 10 dives on a liveaboard in Indonesia until just now wih current problem that I realized during firmware update, that the device only started on 100 power mode after turn on (I realized myself after several trials, because I tried to start on lower power dial level) .

Lot"s of email correpondence and discussions in the past and current. Many suggestion from RETRA "Push this button on this dial mode..... if this is not working try that... may be battery cap... on and on and on....) For me funny thing is that all differnt kind of problems happen to same device and RETRA gives me all the time the opinion that everything is ok with the device itself.

I"m very very frustrated how RETRA handles the issues. Just unhappy customer.....

Hi @Muellema

Ok I understand... sometimes you got the "wrong" item... in this case :(

In France we say "a monday car" if you have with a new car a lonnnnggggg list of problems... you got a "monday strobe"

I realy hope that the 2 Max II I will receive are "good" items.

But I agree if you have a lot of problem Retra should replace your strobe

Hi everyone,

Just to share our perspective:

We always aim to respond promptly and provide clear, step-by-step support when technical issues are reported. In non-critical cases, our goal is to solve the issue remotely so the user can continue using the strobe without interruption. If the problem persists or further inspection is needed, we invite the user to send the unit in for a full check.

In this case, we identified a likely cause, suggested a workaround that keeps the strobe functioning normally, and offered the option of inspection. Unfortunately we haven't heard back from the customer since.

The Pro Max series is the most reliable we have ever built, now in its fifth generation, thanks to continuous improvements based on real-world feedback. We remain committed to supporting all our users and improving wherever we can.

Thanks to everyone for your support so far, it really means a lot to us.

  • 4 weeks later...

Shipments of the Pro Max II began on June 30th, as announced at launch, and we expect most of the remaining orders to be dispatched this week.

If you're considering purchasing the new Pro Max II, please note that the current special pre-order price will increase in one week.

My 2 Retra Pro Max II arrived minutes ago...

Happy

Will open the package this afternoon after work .

Thank's @Oskar - Retra UWT for the conversion of my original order 2xMaxi to 2xMax II. I believe it was the good decision.

Let's see a picture? I've not seen the final product yet.

Matt and I have a UWPS episode coming on Saturday on the flashes. I took almost 10,000 shots with pre-prod units in the Red Sea last month.

Let's see some photos of your additions!

I got mine today! I am switching from an Inon Z-330 so I wanted to share a cursory comparison. The Retra is 27 grams heavier, both strobes without batteries. Retra is about 1 cm longer. It seems like the Retra will fit in the same space in my backpack where my Inon were packed. Can't wait to shoot it underwater in two weeks!

I don't think the 1cm extra height be a problem.

I think you might need new scales, the listed weight for the new Retra is 838 grams. If it was 51 grams it would float. I got a pair of Retra pures about a month ago and it seems a nice upgrade to my old Z240s. With the reduction rings fitted seems I get a lot less backscatter than with the Z240.

Now that's embarrassing! As you can tell, metric is not my first language. Thanks for pointing that out. I re weighed it on a solid surface. I wonder why I got a weight of 740 grams?

@Chris Ross the weight measurement by @Hiloboy is correct as he measured both strobes without mounting ball and without batteries.

We specify the weight on our website as:

(2) Weight on land with 1" (inch) mounting ball and 4x AA Eneloop PRO Batteries / 8x AA Eneloop PRO Batteries respectively

Yes 740 grams would be about right, the photos above have been changed.
