A question, maybe a silly one.

I was looking at the Nauticam N120 Canon Port Chart, specifically for the Canon EF 100 F2.8 macro. The table generally lists SMC/CMC and then (being FF) gives the working distances and magnifications for SMC-1 and 2. It seems like SMC-2 is much more powerful than SMC-1.

However, for the CMCs that I use, it's the opposite: the CMC-2 is less powerful than the CMC-1.

So, is it not possible to know the magnifications achievable with CMC-1 and 2 by looking at those for the SMC series?

P.S.

I'm using the EF 100 on a M43 system

The numbers following the dash in the model names reflect the chronological order of when the model was introduced so has NOTHING to do with magnification. Yes it should be possible to give a magnification factor but this is probably easier to do empirically as Chris did in the MFO-1 thread. The MFO-1 is more akin to a CMC than a SMC. I had been thinking of trying to use a CMC-2 with my 105 but now can trash the idea.

Has someone tested the Nauticam closeup lenses (that are believed (by most of us, including me) to be of the highest optical quality) and can report what their refractive power in dioptries (UW as well as OV (some manufacturers still give refractive power in dioptries OV)) is (so that one could compare them easily to other diopters)?

The CMC-1 is generally accepted to be a +15 diopter, whereas the CMC-2 is around +10 - not precise, but confirmed by empirical tests.

In terms of high optical quality, the AOI UCL Pro line of diopters is also excellent (+12.5, +18.5, +23.5), maybe surpassing the Nauticam range in some aspects: https://www.aoi-uw.com/products/wet-lenses/aoi-ucl-prs-01.html

Massimo tested the Nauticam CMC lenses and INON lenses a while back and produced a video which would be on his site. He shows photos of a ruler at max magnification so you could back calculate the power. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ_zYSw9o94
