March 11Mar 11 Is it just me - or is all the media attention on the straits of Hormuz making anyone else wonder about what the diving might be like there?I can see that the is a diving outfit in the tip of Oman - probably accessible from Dubai airport (obv. not quite at the the moment.....) Diving – MusandamHas anyone tried diving on that side of the Arabian peninsula? I suppose that there is so much goodness in the red sea it would have to be pretty good to justify the increased risk of diving in such a volatile part of the world.
March 11Mar 11 Author one wouldn't want to get too close to Iran in case they arrested you and accused you of spying or just machine gunned you on the spotI'm imagining the reefs on the Oman side might be quite un-dived and intactthis week might not be ideal but it would be bloody quiet and you could always watch the missiles flying overhead from the RIB...
March 11Mar 11 The Iranian islands near the Straits used to have excellent coral coverage (according to scientific expedition literature from last century). It's almost all been destroyed due to dock building and other infrastructure. The Oman side is supposed to be better, although viz isn't what you get in The Red Sea. March 12Mar 12 The whole Persian gulf is very shallow. Max depth near Musandam is somewhere 200 meters and the average in the gulf a mere 50-60 meters. So that has a big impact. Edited March 12Mar 12 by Christian K
March 13Mar 13 It's barely dived non war days. I wonder how much more wild it'll be post shenanigans. Last we were there was in October.
