SLR to Mirrorless - Macro or WA first?
humu9679 replied to scuba_jc's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
My impressions exactly! And the 28-60 kit lens makes a perfect travel companion mated to a WWL-1 and CMC-2. I traveled recently with the slow and much maligned 50 macro using the same 28-60 N100 Nauticam port, plus 30mm of extension, which worked okay. Regarding strobes, there's a bit of chatter about Backscatter's new Hybrid Flash - something to consider. -
Hi CHanly, Yup, that's how it happens. Not a bad addiction unless you can't pay the mortgage. Bienvenidos!

That looks great! Well done!

Such a treat to see small animals. And most of us know the patience and cooperation require to make those pictures! Well done. -
Uneven mobility of strobe arms
humu9679 replied to WaterApe's topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
I've found that mismatched arms and clamps can be an issue, specifically clamps. Changing o-rings is a good start, and having good, fine thread clamps, like Nauticam's, can handle heavier strobes/lights. I've just ordered a single clamp to take the place of one misbehaving clamp. -

This from Pan Ocean Photo in Germany: <<< The entire PanOceanPhoto team is still in a state of shock. Our warehouse was broken into at the weekend. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. However, a lot of goods were taken. It can therefore be assumed that dubious offers for housings, optics, lights and strobes from the following brands will be posted on the relevant forums, groups, classified adverts etc. in the near future: Nauticam | Weefine | AOI | Isotta | Keldan | Fantasea | Sea&Sea | Retra-UWT We have recorded the serial numbers for all items. As soon as an authorised specialist dealer, a service centre or a manufacturer receives these goods, they are registered. HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF? Please let either us (+49 2501 +9292419) or any police station in Germany know immediately if you find any offers that appear suspicious: Relatively new goods are particularly cheap Seller obviously has no idea what he or she is selling Sales "for a friend or girlfriend" Offers that are to be processed very quickly Retailers who are not authorised specialist retailers of the brands mentioned offer the items in their shop with discounts and strike prices "Dealers" who offer unsolicited discounts in forums and groups and deliver from abroad. We would be extremely grateful for any information that leads to the perpetrators being caught or the goods being recovered. We will certainly also be very generous.

NEW - Backscatter Hybrid Flash
humu9679 replied to James Emery's topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
Looks awesome. Backscatter has been listening. This ticks all the boxes for stills, with the occasional video clip. -

Thanks Tim. I wasn't sure what was happening with the parallel site. I do appreciate this tight and mostly thoughtful community. I also quite like that people come to underwater photography from so many places. Foreign service? Chemical engineering? Love it.

First dive with OM-1 & Canon 8-15
humu9679 replied to Chris Ross's topic in Photo / Video Showcase and Critique
Photos look really good Chris. -
Hello people. I resisted joining this site because ... it's another site we have to invest time and effort. I'm based in Oahu, currently working too much so not diving as often as I'd like. My little group of dive buddies tends towards a single weekend shore dive at various locations depending on surf. Recently picked up DPV diving, which gives a different experience to our usual dive sites. Sadly, the DPV makes carrying around a full frame camera and strobes a bit difficult. I'm a former photojournalist. I worked at the Associated Press in Los Angeles, Phnom Penh and New Delhi; The Seattle Times, LA Times, Detroit Free Press and the Dallas Morning News. I cut my teeth at the late, great Dallas Times Herald, with its wonderful Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers. I'm a life-long Canon user (FD, EF), and really only starting using autofocus after I left journalism and started using mirrorless cameras about 2010. Shooting Sony now.
