The night at Fakarava

I planned for two days of diving in Fakarava; however, the airport fire fighters decided to go on strike while my wife and I were on the island.

It did not take too long me to decide to do some more divings as I had to stay 6 extra nights at paradise. I'm actually glad I could've stayed longer...

 

At one point, we were the only guests for days! Most divings at night were 1 to 1. The instructor and I tried something new other people had not done.

However, night divings were highlight of the trip instead of the famous wall of shark.

I am planning to go back in June to do some more night divings with sharks again.

It sounds incredible good and I have to get closer to that. We already thought about going back to Mo‘orea and that would be a great combination.

Just heads up... Night diving was on south side of Fakarava called Tetamanu. There is only one operator offering night diving in the area. The pension is not cheap and condition is not what you expect for the price. Some people were not satisfied, but I had no problem since I prepared as much as I could.

Other than that, the divings were the best I've done so far. A lot of sharks and fish... healthy corals, mantas and napoleon wrasses. I miss the island so much that I am planning to go back in June for grouper spawning.

Meanwhile I'm going to Moorea for a week in March to check out what I missed last month. So excited!

We had 2 very good experiences in Mo‘orea. One was the photographer Joaqin Fregoni who provided night snorkeling, somehow interesting conditions but perfect guide. The other was blue water diving, located in Manva Beach resort who had the best interactions with the whales, which I highly recommend (we tried 3 different providers). Reserve a spot because they usually are fully booked. 

 

For Fakarava we already saw all the reviews and I think we know what to expect.

Can you get me info about night snorkeling? I am looking forward to do some shark snorkeling during the sunset...
