Hi everyone,

There's currently a great deal on the Canon R6 Mark II, and I’m seriously considering upgrading. Before making the jump, I have a few questions regarding its underwater use and housing compatibility.

1. Has anyone tried R6II? How does it compared with R5II underwater macro?
2. I'm deciding between Marelux and Nauticam for the housing. I'm leaning to Marelux due the price point; however, I have some questions about the housing itself.

- What's the size and weight of Marelux housing. I cannot find the information on the website.

- If I use RF100, does Marelux port compatible with Nauticam SMC-3 and MFO-1?
- I already own the WWL-1B — are there any lens options compatible with the WWL-1B when using Marelux housing?

Would love to hear from anyone with experience or thoughts on this. Appreciate the help!

The thing to be aware of regarding housing sizes is that Nauticam designed the mirrorless housings so that the EF-RF adapter ( or the FTZ for Nikon) sits inside the housing with the adapter flange at the same position as the EF-camera flange.  This means that the EF lenses use the same ports and extensions and zoom gears as they did with the DSLR housings.  This means the housings are bigger from front to back.

Marelux never made DSLR housings so was free to design from scratch on housing size.

I would also mention that Isotta makes particularly compact housings, I a diver who got the Nikon Z6 housing rather than Nauticam because the overall package was so much smaller and lighter.

Regarding the WWL-1B, this thread discusses WWL on other systems:

The MFO/SMC are m67 and are covered in the thread as well.

I have the R6ii and use it in the Marelux housing. I'll send the dimensions on it shortly (without port on it? or with RF100 port on it?).  I'll also check if it has the 67 mm port end that would work with the SMC-3.

I use it almost exclusively for video and not much with Macro - I mostly shoot wide. I can say that I really like the housing and camera and would get them both again. If you have specific questions, please do ask.

I have not used it with the WWL-1B or any of the Nauticam optics.  They do make many adaptors that are not on their website and are very responsive to questions (and there is really good info in that shared thread).

For size of the Marelux R6 ii housing - The width of the housing without handles is 22cm and with handles is 36cm.  I say this is I will often pull the handles to be able to fit it, the camera, strobes/video lights, and 2 ports plus extensions in a carryon bag - and that is easier with the handles pulled.  Height with balls on the handle is 21cm and without the balls on  20cm. Front to back, without a port is 14cm.

I have not used any of the wet lenses from Marelux - they are pretty new though (the lenses) so maybe there will be more information soon.

I have an R6 II with the Nauticam housing and I really enjoy using it.

The sensor has 24 megapixels but you can always use super resolution to upscale the images.

The difference with a 45 megapixel sensor won't be noticeable at 45 megapixels when upscaled and you will have the benefit of using a smaller and lighter setup.

I would also recommend going with the 8-15mm fisheye lens rather than the WWL-1B which will give you a 180 degree FOV and the lens together with the Nauticam 140mm port has excellent image quality.

I own and shoot the R6mark II in a Marelux housing and Canon 8-15mm Fisheye plus some other lenses.

I can highly recommend this setup. The housing has made some minor improvements even over Nauticam housings, which was actually hard to think about; but the reason why I decided on MARELUX.
