As I continue to add new bits, I'm thinking of options for shooting both videos and stills in the same dive and trying to keep gear to a minimum. Currently I use 2 Inon 240s for stills and a Kraken light when I remember it for videos. it's kinda unwieldy and I don't love not being able to operate the Kraken with one hand, but it's what I have on hand right now.

Obviously it's all a compromise but what are your suggestions to get the best "do it all" lighting bang for buck?

Combination strobe/video tend to max out at about 5000 lumens which is not all that powerful in terms of a video light and often have restricted beam angles. The most powerful combo seems to be the Backscatter HF-1 currently. It depends on what your video expectations are of course, the HF-1 I expect could do macro video quite readily, but would expect it to be limited to do video with your main camera. Basically the video light needs to out power ambient light or close to it. As a flash it's very powerful, though I saw Alex mustard comment it sometimes doesn't turn down enough for macro. The downside I see is that it quite a heavy lump even UW, you can counteract that of course but it's more weight you need to cart around. We have quite a few people on the site who use it now.

End of September UW Technics will have their hybrid strobe available (hopefully).

Flash power 150 Ws, Color Temperature 5500K

Professional Video-light 18000 lumen, true colors CRI 92, Color Temperature 5000K.

I am using two HF-1 with Sony A7R5 and I am happy with them for photography (most of the time I use them with the 4500K diffusers). A clear upgrade to my former Z330s (I personally have no problems with the extra size and weight - some change in buoyancy trim of the setup in the beginning and never looked back)...

What regards video, these 5000 lumen lights are o.k. for me, but I do almost no video. Clearly, these video lights are an "emergency" solution and no dedicated videographer would work with them (o.k., before the HF-1s, I did the (very occasional) video with a single Weefine 3400 lumen focuslight and this was plenty for macro)...

Maybe the UW-Technics hybrid flash that Sokrates cites are a better solution, but I believe I would prefer a separate solution with dedicated video lights in case I would make serious videos. In case the HF-1s would be smaller and lighter without video lights, I would prefer them without them, but I doubt that the omission of these LEDs would have a significant effect on size and/or weight ...
