FrancoisC Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hi, I have an Olympus EM1 mkII with an Olympus 90mm macro lens. In a Nauticam housing with N85 Macro Port 120 dedicated part. Does anyone try this with the 1,4x teleconverter and N85 Extention Ring 17 (as specified in port chart) ? in which mode in the lens ? Normal, 2x (S-macro) ? Any input will be welcome 🙂
Chris Ross Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I have used the combination on land - I don't have the port for it to try UW. AF is slightly slower but works fine mostly and image quality seems fine. I shoot at f11 usually. I probably have some reasonable on land samples I could share. I think I recall 1 or 2 WP people mentioning they shoot with it UW, perhaps they will chime in. Here is a sample with the 2.0x: https://www.facebook.com/groups/wetpixeluw/posts/10158868336166017 Some people using the lens on this WP post: https://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?/topic/70464-om-system-90mm-macro-announced/page/4/
FrancoisC Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Thanks Chris. not sure I will be able to do some tests, needing to find a 17mm extention ring... Anyway I have first to try to get some good results without TC. From my first tests (in pool), it seems a 1cm subject will fill the whole image in S-macro mode... Trip to Alor, Indonesia planned for June and weanwhile in fresh water at La Gravière du Fort, Alsace France. Will post images (If I can get good ones 🙂 )
bvanant Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Why shoot with the 1.4 rather than add a low power diopter on a flip? In my hands on the OM-1 using the Oly 1.4 tele autofocus is noticeably slower. I haven't tried it that way underwater (can't find any extension ring shorter than 22 mm) Bill
FrancoisC Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Hi Bill. I tested with a Saga +10 and a Noodilab Moby, but with no benefits. Basically no better magnification, but very short working distance. I still have to test with my wife's Subsee+5 As previously written I already have to master the lens w/o additions...
FrancoisC Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 (edited) I have done some tests in the pool. Tested, Subsee +5, Saga +10, SMC1, Noodilab. Compared to X2 S-macro mode, I could get for some of them nearly same magnification, but in all cases with the cost of a reduce working distance. No benefit at all. A sample of result with the 90mm lens alone in X2 S-macro mode. Working distance is around 4-5 cm. This is the head of a Lego minifig. Width is around 10mm, filling the frame with no crop. Not so bad... null Edited February 2 by FrancoisC 1
