P.S. The AOI lens is stunning . Quality in water from night to day. At that price it should be the default kit for anyone using it underwater.

99% per cent of underwater monitors are simply Chinese monitors (from the controls and fw you can see that many are Feelworld monitors), Two parameters are crucial: - brightness - weight in water. 4/500 nits may be low for tropical seas. You would need at least 1000 nits. A fine, streamlined monitor is not necessarily better. Maybe it weighs a heck of a lot and thetroublea nightmare to get the whole kit with a decent weight and trim. This is very important for video makers. I'm seeing fake reviews on YouTube with monitors mounted in absurd ways. Another parameter to keep in mind is the position of the connectors on the monitor and your housing bulkheads. There may be cases where you only have one option to mount it due to bad cables routing or connectors banging.

IMHO linear is the way to go with flat port/lens.

1 million dollar question 🙂 This is the crux of the matter and I am sure that each member has his or her own view. Now everyone is attracted to the A7R5 and A1 but I'm sure an A7R2 is a great camera that can give anyone satisfaction. I usually start at 50% of the price I paid for it and then adjust according to the need/want to clear the shelf at home 🙂 how much it is in demand on the market and of course its state of preservation. I often buy things used. I'm not obsessed with having new items. I also find it ethical. So when I sell I also put myself in the buyer's shoes. Many times the seller does not realise that if the savings are small, people prefer to buy the item new.

I don't think so. Already the normal lens suffers in water because of its wide FOV and flat glass. The Max Lens Mod increases the field to 170 degrees so a real fisheye and would need a proper dome. Water resistance drops to 5 metres and Gopro itself claims it is not optimised for underwater images. Your best bet is to buy an AOI or Inon wet lens. Here you have a video in Italian with English subtitles on mod 1.

And it works like a treat... The only downside is that the battery isn't user replaceable. The way it is assembled, I see no way to open it without breaking it or otherwise losing its water resistance. A bit like a gopro. So when the battery has run out of cycles. Goodbye.

That one is for the GoPro plus the Digipower. I'm using the DigiPower "naked" because is waterproof up to 10 m. In a 9 °C water I'm getting 3h 1/2 from a GoPro 11 at 4K@50p 200Mbit, Hypersmooth, GPS & Wi-Fi off.

Fotosubshop.com lent me an AOI UWL-03 demo lens to try out for my freshwater project. To be able to use it I had to wait for some extra bits. Specifically the AOI 52 mm screw mount and a 52 mm screw adapter for the GoPro lens. The AOI UWL-03 lens lent to me is the Backscatter version. I mention this because I found out that the AOI and Backscatter packages are different: AOI is supposed to provide all bayonet mounts from GoPro 5 to 12 while Backscatter only provides the mount from GoPro 9 to 12 (they are identical so only one mount) and adds two red and orange filters to be used with the modified bayonet mount provided. To use the 52mm screw mount you have to remove the bayonet mount via 6 Allen screws. The AOI kit is supplied with replacement screws and a 1.5 mm Allen key. Exactly 2 minutes of work. I then fitted a GoPro lens adapter found on Amazon to use the 52mm filters on the GoPro lens We are ready. Why didn't I use the bayonet mount? All bayonet mounts attach either to the original GoPro underwater case or to the back of the GoPro itself. For my project (basically a kind of camera trap) I am using a DigiPower battery pack that allows me to film for over 3 hours without having to change batteries. The DigiPower pack completely encloses the GoPro and allows only the 52mm adapter to be used on the lens. For my particular use this solution is perfect. I leave 4 GoPro in 50 cm of water in a river on a tripod. I would never, ever use this solution for real underwater use. The 52 mm screw adapter attaches to the GoPro lens via a small Allen screw with a rubber tip. The AOI glass lens weighs 331 grams, just enough to detach the adapter and the entire GoPro lens. The original AOI/Inon/Backscatter bayonet mount is sturdy and it's the way to go for normal use. I will give you feedback on the image quality.

Sorry guys, you're right, I didn't understand myself either 😄 Anyway yes, Isaac you understood me . I meant that the focusing unit exists in three models: Nikon/M43, Canon, Sony. Each model has its compatible lenses. I'd like to try it on my GH5/ Leica 45mm to understand the video potential but everyone I know has the Canon or Sony version so I've never arranged a test. I understand there is a degree of interchangeability between models. This means I can pester the lucky owners with a test request 😇
