What official options are there for owners of other brands of housings to mount Nauticam wet lenses while keeping the qualities intact? 

 

Regardless of judgments, it is a fact that these optics have changed the market. Here is an excellent roundup of the various models available.

 

 

 

I often see photos of various brands' housings with WWL-1 or WACP or EMWL but cannot find mention in the manufacturers' catalogs.

 

Recently I saw that Isotta has included an adapter for WWL on their site but otherwise...

 

Personally I understand the competitors' intention to defend their brand but I find this behavior even counterproductive because sometimes you are a victim of vendor lock-in.

Knowing that you can change housing and still use them or that my housing can use them and I don't have to change it.

The wet lenses use a bayonet mount (apart from the original WWL-1 which has an M67 thread) and the while bayonet mount screw onto an M67 threaded port the issue is that the bayonet attachment for the port has a U-shaped groove and is the port lip is too wide it won't screw on.  It might work on some ports but not others.

 

One work around is to adapt a Nauticam port to your housing and this will work if you can get the right adapter length/port length combination.  If you have a Isotta or Sea and Sea housing that uses N120 ports you can adapt  the Nauticam port directly by changing the lug plate over to a S&S/Isotta lug plate.

Sagadive.com makes WACP N120 adapters for at least seven different housing brands.

 

In Marelux world the 32 flat port with 67mm threads works with the Sony FE 28-60mm and WWL-1/1B.

 

Marelux also has an N100 to Marelux 5 inch 17mm adapter for the same Sony 28-60 and WACP-C.

 

Marelux also has a Nauticam N120 to Marelux 5 inch 20mm extension which works with WACP-1/2 in the N120 mount. It also works with ports like those from Nauticam and Zen. I use mine with the 12 inch Matty Smith dome for split shots. The Sony FE 28-60 works with the WACP-1 direct mounted with no additional extension. In the photo of WACP-1 mounted on the Marelux housing I am using the 20mm NA to MX adapter and a 30mm Marelux extension while testing a Tamron zoom with WACP-1.

 

Marelux also has the Aquista line of wet wide lenses coming soon and you can also get to 130 degrees with the excellent Laowa 10mm F/2.8 rectilinear auto focus lens for Sony FE and Nikon Z.

 

Silver housing is WWL-1, Top view short adapter is the WACP-C and WACP-1 with two extensions.

Isotta recently modified a port to accept the Nauticam M67 Bayonet Converter II and adapt the wwl-1b and wwl-c for the Nikon z 24-50: M67 H63 B120 macro port.
They have an adapter for wacp (seen on divephotoguide dema 2023 on youtube) but I don't have the reference.

Have you tried installing the marelux port on the M67 to Bayonet Mount Converter II?

 

If I understand your question correctly, yes I have mounted the bayonet mount II on the Marelux 32 flat macro port to use with the Sony FE 28-60mm and the WWL-1B. Note in the images that the MX-32 port is shorter than the Nauticam port and the BLUE lens release hits the port when it is pushed down to release the lens. In the photo you will see I shaved a few mm off the blue release to make it work more easily.

What about canon? If there is now a Marelux zoom gear for the RF24-50, it seems possible to adapt the WLL-1c? Any hint on required adaptor and port ?

Will the new Aquista an alternative to the wll1?

Marelux has a zoom gear for Canon RF-S 18-45 which has been used on APS-C with a wide way lens. Have not heard at what point the RF24-50 will be supported. Marelux focus is on supporting Marelux wet lenses at this point.

Marelux has several wet wide lenses including the Aquista 120 which I used Saturday’s (May 30th 25) for the South Florida Underwater Photography Society Meetup Dive at Blue Heron Bridge. The day was a bit overcast, water temp was a bit on the cool side and visibility was not the best. So a wonderful day for some close-focus work. My tools of choice, the Sony A7CR and Sony FE 28-60mm zoom in the Marelux MX-A7CR housing, with two Apollo S strobes and the new Aquista 120 Wide Angle Wet Lens. This lens is 130 degrees at the 28mm setting.

So Phil, I had a look at the Marelux wet lenses just now, is there some sort of port chart to work out which lenses they will work with? At the moment there is just the lens posted with no additional information I could find.

Since at least last year Isotta can be used with the WWL-1B without modification with the correct port (e.g. H59 B120 for Sony 28-60mm). The WACP can also be used with an Isotta made adapter. There is actually a video that shows this ... Insider DIvers Youtube channel "Do Nauticam Wet Lenses work on Other Housings? YES, THEY DO"

Hi Chris, This is bit of a work in progress and no port chart or owner manual has been released. In the case of Sony FF mirrorless cameras the flat port 32 is used with the bayonet mount converter which threads to the 67mm port. Marelux has zoom gears for Sony 28-60mm which I use, this port also supports the Sony 28mm F/2 and the Sony 28-70mm with the addition of a 20mm port extension. The same port and lenses can also be used with WWL-1B as shown above.

I believe Canon RF-S 18-45 (APS-C) is also supported with the same 32 port and can be used with Aquista 120 at about 120 degrees max rather than the full 130 degrees for full frame. In Nikon Z 24-50 is not yet supported with a zoom gear.

The Aquista 120 I am testing is a prototype and did not include any type of float collar. I have used five float blocks (2oz each) and one 1500ml Flexibuoy on the strobe arms for best balance and balance.

Yes, it works for Sony. Not yet for Canon. They mentioned they might support a zoom gear for the RF 24-50, but without a confirmed date yet. Then the type of port to accomodate that lens with the WLL1c will need to be checked, so this doesn't seem to be for tomorrow!

I understand the goal to support Marelux Wet Lens. If they can be proven any close to the WLL, this would be awesome!

But Canon shooters are still facing a challenge outside of Nauticam! Especially FF... Not sure what the RF-s 18-45 would do with an R5, but even if the 24-50 is a low-end lens, it seems this is the only one which work at this point with a wet system (again as in Nauticam).

I was told the 60222 zoom gear is soon available for the RF24-50 ? This is key for a Marelux decision, assuming there is a way to get it with a proper port, and at least some testing with an Aquista wet lens.

There seems to be a decent number of Marelux Ambassadors using the R5 and R5ii, and I have seen the test from Masa Biru with the 18-45 (I think), but again, using a FF lens for a FF system should be best, shouldn't it ?

To make the RF 24-50 work on a Marelux housing a flat port in the 13mm range would need to be developed.

The Nikon Z 24-50 will not likely be supported with a flat port (67mm) because it would need to fit inside the the Marelux housing. The Nauticam port is only 6mm so it would need to be about 9/10mm inside the Marelux housing.

You are correct it is the wwl1c for the canon rf24-50. (With the 27mm port). Seems a popular configuration with canon FF shooter who like wet system.

If indeed Marelux doesn’t have a port for this lens (yet?), then I am wondering what the zoom lens 60622 would be for…

But my other question is, if Marelux wants to push its own wet lens, is this going to be a Sony play and canon FF would have to use what is available (from apsc) ? Which wouldn’t be compelling!

Zoom lens 60622? I don't recognize this part number.

Sony simply has the most lenses that can be used with 28mm wet optics regardless of brand.

It appears to me that currently only one wet lens can be used with the RF 24-50 behind aflat 67mm port and that is Nauticam WWL-C designed for 24mm's at 130 degrees. This is the least expensive of the NA-wet lenses and one would assume that other lenses like WACP-C, WACP-1 and so on would have better IQ from 28mm than the WWL-C simply because of cost.

Marelux has a wet lens, Aquiista 100/67 also designed for 24mm at 120 AOV, this lens is also less expensive than the Aquista 120. When Marelux releases a port for the RF 24-50 a choice can be made between the two. I have not used the. A-100/67 so have no thoughts on full frame performance.

Currently Marelux only has one APS-C housing for Canon R7. Unlike Nauticam, Marelux currently only has one port size, five inch or 127mm. As a result all ports and extensions work on any Marelux housing. So a port for RF rf 24-50 will work on any system and same for RF-S 18-45mm.

The RF-S 18-45 is very similar in length to Sony FE 26-60 so I suspect it might work in the current Marelux flat port 32 but RF 24-50 will defiantly need its own 67mm flat port.

My experience has been with the Marelux system for Sony and the Sony FE 28-60mm using the WACP-1 with the 20mm Nauticam to Marelux adapter. This configuration allows me to zoom through the entire zoom range without any vignetting .

I have also used the same setup in the Nauticam housing with the N100 to N120 35.5mm port adapter for the N120 WACP-1 with no vignetting through the entire zoom range.

Without having tested the Marelux/WACP-1 with EF 28-70mm I would only be making an educated guess. My guess is that the lens should zoom through the entire range and may be slightly wider at the 28mm setting v Nauticam.
