So I take it as the new Maxi's are gonna be just as good as having a decent set of strobes say... Inon Z240's + have the ability to be used as a video light as well?

More like the BS HF-1 strobes. Specs are very similar.

I've seen a figure of 107 W/s quoted for Z-330, whereas, at least by published numbers (550 full-power flashes off a pair of 6000mAh Li-Ion batteries), Retra Maxi is somewhere around 300-350 W/s.

I placed a pre-order for the 2 Retra Maxis and was recently advised by Oscar that, due to overwhelming demand and potential complications ramping up production, the shipment would be delayed at least until April 28th. Retra offered to cancel and refund the order if that delay is too long.

 

I'm.. a little concerned that this is quite reminiscent of the recent production issues they had with the Lithium battery packs for the circular flash tube line (though this time, for reasons of too much demand rather than too little!) Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but thought I'd share this info here for others interested in these strobes, which look great on paper 🙂

I'm in the same situation but I'll wait I have my 2 old Retra and one or 2 month more to wait will not change anything.

I all case the next trip will be with the old one  and the over next (probalbly one week in august) is far enough to hope that the new retra will be there...  

 

The realy important date for me will be november 2025 at this time I will need the new retra.

Seems to be roughly double the energy input calculating the Ws for each full power flash the same way compared to the Retra flash ProMax.  I seem to recall Retra used to quote a 130° coverage for the circular tube models, the maxi has 160° so won't be double the light on the subject.  Changing the field covered from 130 to 160° decreases illuminance in lux( that is light intesity on the subject) by about 70%.

Retra Prime+ is 90W/s and Pro is 150W/s - no need to guess there, as those figures are quoted in specs.

True, but you can tighten the beam with reflectors or widen it with diffusers - changing the actual power output is considerably more difficult.

Thanks for the update.  Seems I made the right choice.  I had the online order form filled out up to entering the credit card info.  After thinking about it, I decided the small initial savings did not offset my concern of a company requiring up front payments in full to pre-fund their production costs.  I'm also not a fan of not know exactly how much I will need to pay in import duties/taxes once it is shipped.  I'm sure it will be a terrific system, but I personally decided to reconsider them once local dealers have them and the field testing has been done.
