3 of my -not too old- Eneloop pros are dead. See pictures. Have 32 of the pro`s (16 bought 2023 and 16 bought 2024) and 32 of "normal white" eneloops (arround +10 years old). Never ever had a issue with the old white ones. All still working.

All of the Pros only slightly used on 2 dive trips with not too many charging cycles. At home I charge with Youshiko intelligent charger. During last dive trip I used EBL chargers recommended and supplied by Retra. Realized that sometimes the Pros during charge in EBL got extrem hot. Accus got no contact with saltwater etc.. Any ideas what happen?

I’m using EBL USB chargers all the time for my Eneloops - Pro and White. Had all the batteries for some years and no issues at all.

im using Panasonic BQ-CC55 chargers. I did have one or two dead batteries a long time ago, but not in recent years. I allways travel with a few extra batteries.

I do try to keep the eneloops bundled in pairs of 4, Never had issues like in your pictures myself

For the Retra users.. I can recommend for travelling the BQ-CC63 8 AA slim, light I love this charger

I use AA Eneloop pro... no such problems but some had some problems allways had error loading it Iost more than 15% of it in the past 3 or 4 years.

I, too, have used both the standard Envelops and the pros, with BQ-CC55 chargers and Inon strobes. I've had no issues.

While I completely agree that a good battery charger is essential for ensuring a long life for rechargeable batteries, over the years I've charged batteries with the most absurd junk and never had anything like this happen.

IMHO, I think it's more likely a batch of defective batteries. If I were you, I'd try to contact Eneloop/Panasonic and report what happened.

Yeah, that was my thought too.

FWIW, and I’m no expert, apparently fast charging is much more likely to damage batteries due to the heat generated. Ever since I read some comparisons of battery life using different charge cycles, I only use the “soft” cycle, which does take twice as long, but the batteries stay noticeably cooler than on the normal cycle. My chargers are Maha (Powerex) “intelligent” models.

I do the same, my Maha I always use on soft charge mode.

the Youshiko charger I usually use back home has all kind of modes like different charge modes with more or less power/speed, refresh, test, discharge. But as already mentioned I used only on the diving trip the EBL FY-409 charger. It has only one charge mode. And it took about 6-10 hours to charge the eneloops (imagine arround 60-80% discharged)

The charger was delivered and recommended by RETRA to charge the eneloops. Strange imagination if then the charger is the problem. Anyway many thanks for your support. Try also to contact eneloop distributor in Germany. If I get any news will let you know.
