I have recently started using the EMWL system and am experimenting with how I can reduce or eliminate floating particles between the three different elements. I bought the Nauticam Filtering Sleeve and am not happy with this option, as floating particles still get inside, or it is so tightly bandaged that I can no longer properly operate the air bubbles by turning the wheel to release them. The Nauticam EMWL Water Jacket Set seems a bit expensive to me at around 650 euros... Apart from that, I also keep changing the front element underwater! I do a lot of muck diving from the beach and often there are a lot of particles in the water. Maybe someone has some practical tips or advice?

I recall seeing a few posts on this possibly on Wetpixel??? most seems to be some kind of sock that is strapped around the assembly.

On land the solution would be a blower bulb to blow particles away. If there was someway to attach a tube to the air release ring you could use a large syringe to push water through the opening, and you could presumably rig up a filter for the water. Without seeing the ring in person, it's hard to judge if this is feasible. If you could attach something like this ( a primer for outboard fuel supply) with a filter on the suction it might work:

Generally, you have two options. The first is inexpensive and functional, but probably more difficult to handle (freediving sock), and the second is professional, but also significantly more expensive (water jacket). The only disadvantage of the second option is that you won't get as low as you would with a sock.

Thx for sharing! Can you please provide some info about your diy option?! When do you fill the sock with water/how to release the air… changing front element underwater a bad idea or not?! is there any special knowledge that helps to speed up my learning curve?

Several people have asked me about this in the past, so I tried to summarize it in this simple HOWTO. I am adding it as images ...

The disadvantage is that it is a fixed setup, i.e., it is not possible to change lenses underwater. I have one sock for 100 + 160 and another sock with a larger opening for 130. I usually bring it to the location ready and only disconnected EMWL from the housing. At the location, I just attach the bayonet, pull the rubber band over the flat port, and fill it with settled drinking water. I can dive with it all day long and the water inside will stay in. Once the setup is submerged, the water doesn't leak out.

Seems like maybe you could just stretch some Panty Hose over the unit and rubber band it at both ends. The hose material would be a very fine filter to keep the chunky bits out of the optics.
