I'm looking through some options for a wide-angle options for Canon R6 Mk II in Marelux housing. As EF 8-15 Fisheye is quite hard to find, I'm looking for some alternative.

Gear I currently have

• EF 16-35 F2.8 III L

• WWL-1B (was using this with Nauticam R50)

At this point, I’m unsure whether I should:

• Use the EF 16–35mm with a dome port, or

• Try to build a setup that works with the WWL-1B on a Marelux housing

Getting a new lens is also an option if it makes more sense overall.

Also, have anyone tried Marelux Aquista 120? From the port chart, it seems like it works with EF 16-35 but I cannot find any review or sample images.

Any suggestions, experiences, or sample images would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

AN 8-15 fisheye is an excellent lens and IMO a 16-35 is not a replacement for it as it doesn't focus particularly close so is likely to need a large 230mm dome port to do its best.

You could consider a sigma fisheye but that's unfortunately also discontinued. A quick look shows quite a few 8-15 lenses on sale from second hand camera stores in Japan which might be a good option, they are advertised on Ebay.

In rectilinear lenses, the 15-30 STM lens and 14-35 focus much closer and work better in domes including smaller domes like the 180mm, sample images are found here, where you can compare performance of the lenses:

Your problem with the WWL is that the Nauticam port chart does not have any recommendations for full frame and the WWL-1B, they list the WWL-C with the 24-50, however the 24-50 doesn't receive good reviews. The WWL is only slightly wider than the the 16-35 lens in the horizontal axis.

What's best probably really depends on what you shoot, for reef scenics and CFWA, the fisheye is king, anything needing some reach like pekagics maybe the rectilinear or look into the 8-15 plus 1.4x.

If going with a housed lens (versus a wet lens) I'd recommend only two choices.

FYI - I'm an APS-C shooter having never pulled the $$$$$ trigger for Full Frame......Just not worth it to me and I print some big prints occasionally that look fine at viewable distances.

Buy a Canon 8-15mm F4L Fisheye (plenty of clean used ones are out there for good prices) or the get newest Canon RF 15-30mm IS STM lens, also a bargain if you prefer rectilinear or like me want lenses to use above water.

Either choice with a correctly specified dome port will make great images.......

Only corner pixel peepers who insist on shooting nothing less that f11-22 may find "deficiencies". You will drive yourself crazy overanalyzing differences never visible in your final photos......

I've shot Sigma 15mm Fisheye on Nikon and Canon bodies, the oldest Canon 15mm Fisheye and a friend's borrowed Canon 8-15mm L F4 Fisheye. They all can deliver great images.

The newest rectilinear WA choices (Canon 15-30mm for Full Frame and RF-S 10-18m IS STM for APS-C) are also great and will serve as great surface photography lenses.

I apologize if this sounds dismissive but I've never understood how the insane corner sharpness issue has been discussed to death for awhile now.....Especially considering some of the high megapixel cameras people shoot with !!!!!

Just crop it a bit if you find anything objectionable for your final image! You'll still have a big enough file for any printing, publication use, etc.

WWL-1B + Aquista Mount: 55803 and the Macro Port 97 31302
..both on stock with a dealer near you.

I have also looked into Aquista 110 there and asked a ton of questions about it.

The mount is identical to WWL-1 requirements and you should be able to plug your WWL-1B into the front.
I am quite curious how this old lens will perform behind Aquista 110 or WWL-1B.
Please report back with impressions and results if you will go that road.

Several mistakes in this response, First WWL-1B needs the Nauticam bayonet mount adapter NOT the Marelux mount for Aquista lenses. The NA-adapter will work on any of the Marelux flat ports with 67mm mount. With the Canon RF-S 18-45mm used with R50 you would use Marelux flat port 32 and have full zoom through in APS-C. With EF 16-35mm F/2.8 L III you need Marelux flat port 87+20mm extension NOT port 97. With Aquista 110 the same two port configurations are used except with the Marelux bayonet mount and they will also work with the Aquista 130. Also be aware that just like the Nauticam wet wide lenses the EF 16-35 will have a limited zoom range starting at 28mm, each of the lenses on the Aquista ports will start at 28mm and very depending on zoom range. Aquista lenses are now 130 & 110 to reflect the max AOV.

Photos with the Aquista 130 prototype (no float collar) both full frame at 28mm and vertical at 44mm using the Sony 28-60mm, Marelux Apollo S stones in TTL. Paradise Reef, Bali Indonesia.

Thank a lot everyone for the input. I might try to go with the 87 port +20mm extension with either WWL-1B or Aquista. I'll put an update when I can get these on hands and get to diving.

I should not give precision optical advice late in the evening without my glasses on! I simply overlooked the III behind puttsk‘s lens.

But about the other remark by Phil: I got the info from a friend that at least WWL-1 and Aquista110 production units have similar bayonet and can be swapped. I think he even got the info from a Marelux employee. Can you please double check + confirm or deny this, Phil?

The wet lens in question here is the WWL-1B as opposed to the WWL-1. The WWL-1B as I understand it can only mount to the Nauticam bayonet adapter, while the WWL-1 which was the first released has a 67mm thread and needs an adapter ring to attach to a Nauticam bayonet mount. You buy the Nauticam m67-bayonet adapter to attach to the port and the WWl-1B attaches directly.

Yes, and from the information I was given that exact adapter would also pair with Aquista 110 (production series, not prototype) and vice versa. It would be nice if someone could confirm this.

From what I recall the WWL-1B doesn't work well with bigger lenses, this is why Nauticam doesn't list any EF lenses as being compatible, even the 28-80 that they list for the the WACP-C is said not to work with the WWL-1B, but the Marelux Aquista lenses are listed working with the other lenses.

Your information seems incorrect to me for at least two reasons, #1 if memory serves me right the Nauticam has three blades of equal size that slip into three slots of equal size on the mount. #2 When the lens is mounted and turned it is locked by a small vertical pin that depresses using the blue plastic lock to release the lens.

The Marelux Aquista 110 and 130 lenses have two blades of equal size and a smaller blade. This design prevents you from installing the lens any way but correctly on the mount. The lock on the Marelux mount is on the side at 90 degrees to the NA lock and blocks the smaller blade from being able to turn.

I don't have a WWL-1B to test but I would be very surprised if either lens would work and lock on the other manufactures mount.

Your recollection is correct the attachment point on the WWL or adapter ring has 3 blades. The locking pin drops into a recess to prevent rotation. The only way these bayonets work is like with like. The way to use a WWl-1B is to mount a Nauticam bayonet assembly to the flat port. The only way to mix and match a Nauticam wet lens to another bayonet system is with the first WWL-1 which has an M67 thread allowing other bayonet rings to be threaded on, this may or may work well depending on how the spacing of the rear element ends up in relation to the flat port glass.

The OP has a WWL-1B and the only way to use this with Marelux is to use a Nauticam bayonet mount on the the flat port, unfortunately the WWL-1 doesn't work well with available Canon zooms.

I don't know if you have purchased anything yet but the ideal situation would be to compare costs using your WWL-1 with other systems such as the Nikon 24-50 or SONY 28-60 against buying a new port wet lens under the Marelux system to use your 16-35. Of course if you already have the R6 that's a different story. If that's the case I still think you should look into finding a second hand 8-15 lens, there will be plenty of them available in Japan and they will usually ship internationally.

But the ideal situation will vary somewhat with what you like to shoot. If you were shooting mostly at the wide end of your WWL-1 with the R50, the 8-15 would be a good choice. But if you were using the long end a lot as well, going with a WWL range lens would be better. On the choice of wet lens, the Marelux 130 matches the WWL-1 it seems with the same field which is just slightly wider than a 14mm rectilinear in the horizontal field assuming that the Marelux has similar barrel distortion to the WWL-1, Marelux 110 seems a little narrow to me as the bare lens by itself is as wide if not a little wider in the horizontal field.

Marelux released a port chart for Aquista 130 (https://www.marelux.co/pages/aquista120-port-chart) and it seems like it works with EF 16-35 F2.8 III L. Has any have a chance to try this setup? Would love to see how does this compare with EF 8-15 in term of image quality.

As I understand, the Aquista 130 should have similar specification to WWL-1B. Do you think that such port configuration on Marelux housing would work for WWL-1B too?

Already done and discussed several times. This is the WWL-1B on the Marelux Sony A1 housing using the Sony FE 28-60mm kit zoom with the flat port 32. You will see that the blue lens release has to be filed down a bit for easer release. The Marelux Aquista 130 & 110 wet wide lenses can also be used on the equivalent Nauticam housings with recommended lens/port combinations using the Marelux bayonet mount which is for 67mm. The Nauticam WACP-C and WACP-1/1B can also be used on Marelux with the respective N100 and N120 port adapters.

However, I'm wonder how the wet lens (both WWL-1B and Aquista 130) works with EF 16-35 F2.8. As most of the result I've seen are from RF-S 18-45 or RF 24-50, which is not that impressive. If that also apply to EF 16-35, then I might try to find EF 8-15 Fisheye during my trip to Japan.
