How do you cover the colors of the logos on the front of a lens?

Featured Replies

Hello!

Recently I took some photos and it was clear that the lettering on the lens was reflected on the port since I always get a reflection that has no other explanation. I had heard about this before, but it happened to me for the first time.

How do you cover the colors of the logos on the front of the lens? What’s the best technique?

I’ve seen that Ikelite has some rings, but not for my lens. Other brands don’t seem to invest in this.

Thanks!

I don't know what lens you have, but there are a number of companies that make anti-reflection rings for lenses and there is likely something that fits. Search for anti-reflection rings. If there are no anti-reflection rings for your lens, then a flat black marking pen or paint pen should do the trick.

Masking tape and then a black pen.

Good idea. If going the tape route, another option is matte black gaffer tape. I use gaffer tape for other things and projects often because it usually is easy to remove with no residue or pieces left behind yet holds well. I have never had a reflection issue in ports so have not tried it for that.

I have used a Sharpie pen, a fresh one, to just cover the writing. When the day comes that you want it gone, just use isopropyl on a cotton swab and keep gently dabbing and rubbing until the ink is removed.

One lens that I have is UW dedicated. I carefully masked off everything except the beauty ring with all the nomenclature. I shot it lightly with Krylon Ultra-Flat paint, a couple of light coats.
