January 10Jan 10 Hi everyone. Obviously, new here. I started diving more routinely a couple of years ago, once I realised that diving in the south of France was not that bad. The local waters of Marseille are getting more and more fish, as several areas become protected from fishing and controlled human presence a few years ago. Underwater life quickly adjusted !I have always been a (top side) photographer, but now found that I want to explore the underside via my camera lens. Currently looking for the right equipment, and obsessing with all the immense possibilities of lenses, right camera and all.Looking forward to have some nice pictures to share!Nuno (Portuguese living in Marseille, France)

Started my journey by considering an RX100, then quickly moved my goal to a A6400, but find myself now justifying to myself (you know, that inner dialogue 🫣) that the best compromise long termos really a A7C. And then comes the housing, plus lights, etc. What a black hole !! 🤣
January 11Jan 11 Bienvenue sur waterpixel @tailwind_marseille Before you continue your research, it is urgent to discuss with your banker (and/or your wife) to explain that you are going to have some reckless expenses. There right away, then very regularly over the next years. If the discussion goes well you can continue your research.I speak from experience Edited January 11Jan 11 by CaolIla
January 11Jan 11 Keep cool & save some money for the diving! No use having a perfect setup but staying dry for lack of funds. Have you tried boosting the TG6 images with software in post? Can save you a lot of money & leads to more time spent in the Calanques. Which is, after all, what you wanted to do - right?TG6, nice strobes, maybe a wetlens or two and then get it wet as much as you can! There will be plenty of occasions to upgrade later & keep many of the accessories.

It's an amazing place!I have already spent some time snorkeling with the TG-6 last summer in the Azores. I got some nice pictures, but still find that sensor to give very soft images. I compared it to my old Canon S110 and the Canon won... :/I'm about to get a Sony A6400 - I'm used to shoot with an old Nikon APS-C topside, and want that extra sharpness from the images. Also, Sony's autofocus seems to be otherworldly, which should help with less frustration (I got so many out of focus images with the TG-6, that I only found out later at the computer).
