New Retra Strobe - Retra Pure II

4 hours ago4 hr

Just stumbled across a post from Alex Mustard, posting some photos taken with the new Retra pure II strobe. I have the Pure strobes which are 70 Ws rated and use a slightly smaller diameter circular flash tube which gets more of the strobe light entering a snoot. Here's a link to the post on Facebook:

Apparently shipping Nov 23. said to be their lightest strobe. Here is the info on Retra's website:

UWT Trigger for Nauticam/OM System OM-1
UWT Trigger for Nauticam/OM System OM-1

TimG · August 8Aug 8

Having recently written about installing the o-Turtle trigger into a Nauticam housing, I’ve now had a go with a UWT internal trigger for the Nauticam NA-OM1 housing. UWT describes it as the 11072-22-HSS TTL-Converter for NAUTICAM for OLYMPUS/ OM SYSTEM. The UWT trigger arrives in a bubble-wrap envelope in a small cardboard box. No frills functional. It consists of a small electronics board with two LEDs and a cable leading to a hot shoe connector. The manual explains that strobes are selected

Over 50 and still diving? (Go on, admit it....)
Over 50 and still diving? (Go on, admit it....)
TimG · October 31, 2025Oct 31

On a recent dive trip I met someone who is writing a dissertation on people who are 50+ and diving. If you are interested in contributing, the following is a link to a simple questionnaire which takes about 5 minutes to complete. I've become paranoid about online scams, phishing etc. But this looks fine and I know the author - and the information gathered is pretty innocuous. https://forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=e3VPRDDLUkaTvMqNbR74E5Cna1DJ6d1KvM2oRz5_gAdUM0Y3UEpYTkZERDJON

The Ocean Still Has Stories to Tell
The Ocean Still Has Stories to Tell

RichN · September 29Sep 29

I have spent a lot of years looking through a viewfinder, both above and below the surface. Photography has always been about capturing something that would otherwise pass — a person, a place, a fraction of a second that would be gone if we did not make the effort to preserve it. Sometimes the result is artistic, sometimes documentary, sometimes neither, and sometimes a little of both. But some of the moments that have stayed with me the most are the ones when I’ve stopped thinking about the ph

LOFIC: the 17 stops claimed by the Osmo Pocket 4P and the future of sensors
LOFIC: the 17 stops claimed by the Osmo Pocket 4P and the future of sensors

Davide DB · August 22Aug 22

There has been discussion recently about the new DJI Osmo Pocket 4P. DJI claims up to 17 stops of dynamic range on its new 1-inch sensor, and comparisons with cinema cameras like the ARRI Alexa quickly surfaced online. Looking at the numbers, it might seem plausible, but visually the situation is different. Waveform plot for the DJI OSMO Pocket 4P 20mm wide D-Log2 ISO1600. Image credit: CineD Spoiler: no, it is not a micro Alexa. PetaPixel confirmed after testing it that LOFIC improves both
