  1. Hey guys A mate of mine is off travelling in Polynesia, Cook Islands and Fiji later this year. He and his wife are keen drivers although not photographers. He's looking for a liveaboard recommendation. It's not an area I've ever used a liveaboard. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks! Tim

  4. Thanks! I don't know if Seacam fits though.
  5. I'm looking for a Subal 45-degree viewfinder if anyone has one they might be interested in selling. Preferably in the EU or UK. Thanks Tim
  6. Hi deliamaria A warm welcome to Waterpixels. We hope you enjoy the forum. We’re delighted to have you with us. Best wishes Tim
  7. Looks very neat, Pavel. Fits Subal too?
  8. I'm with you, Chip, or preferring the CR replaceable batteries. I had this discussion a few weeks ago with Miso over the Vivid Leak Sentinel. The V6 also now uses a rechargeable internal battery rather than the previous versions which used easily available CR batteries. Miso explained that this was due to the increasing power consumption of the boards he was using.
  9. I get your point, Wolfgang but is statistical comparison really relevant in something like this? 16 boat sinkings in 5 years highlights your point on poor observance of safety protocols for dive boats in Egypt. Does it really matter whether that's better or worse than, eg Raja (where I'm off to shortly!)? Fact is it's bad. There has been such massive growth in the liveaboard business and competition in Egypt perhaps it's not surprising that corners are being cut. Back in the mid-90s, when I first dived there , there was a dozen or so boats out of Sharm. Now there are what seems like hundreds. Even Marsa Alam is now packed with liveaboards. I bet corners are being cut!
  10. It's worth a read of the link to Dive Magazine's article on the UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch report on Red Sea liveaboard incidents. The report makes for sobering reading: 16 boats lost in 5 years. https://divemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2025-SB1-RedSeaDiveBoats.pdf

  14. I can't comment on the Isotta 16 but have you had a look at the Vivid Leak Sentinel V5 or V6? I've used the Leak Sentinels for about 15 years, starting with the V3, and have found them very good. They're adaptable to most housings. I use them on a Subal.
  15. Hey Kelvin! Great to have you with us. A warm welcome to Waterpixels. Best wishes Tim
  16. The Dutch dive show, Duikvaker, was held in Houten on 1-2 February. The German boat show which includes diving, Boot, is massive in comparison, but Duikvaker being purely diving is, as a result, very manageable. Many of the dive companies who exhibited at Boot were at Duikvaker so a large array of equipment was there both from distributors and dealers to poke, prod, try on and lust over. I was very tempted by the heated vests from Venture Heat! PADI ran its annual Member Forum and explained that they had increased their commitment to Duikvaker and intended to continue with that. A good number of photographic equipment manufacturers, distributors and dealers attended including Sea and Sea, Seacam, Anchor Dive Lights, Onderwaterhuis and SeaLife. Sorry, still no sign of that underwater unicorn, the Inon Z-xxx If Houten, which is just south of Utrecht, is easier for you to reach than Dusseldorf, Duikvaker is worth a look for future years. More information about the show is here: https://www.duikvaker.nl/en/
  17. I think that's a reasonable idea if you're diving on deep walls where, if you let the camera go..... it's gone. But on dives where there is reachable bottom and you let the camera go when positively buoyant it will be very hard indeed to find if it gets to the surface. I aim to have my system just very slightly negatively buoyant.

If you'd like to see more about Boot 2025, there's now a video. You'll see a separate embedded video for the scuba part of the show. It lasts 2.20 seconds but I'm not sure it'll tell you much.... https://www.boot.com/en/Media_News/boot_Media/Videos_boot_2025?utm_source=boot25 besucher&utm_medium=email&utm_content=video&utm_campaign=vi en#impressionen
  21. As Chris writes, it's much simpler to have two strobes the same. Unless there is an overwhelming reason to use one strobe in particular, I'd also recommend going with two the same. Much easier for muscle memory changes to the settings, less faffing about, not yet another set of batteries/o-rings/spares to deal with; and as Chris so rightly says, less Murphy's Law of having the wrong strobe on the wrong side at the wrong time.

Thats odd. Oskar is usually very quick to respond. Worth a message to info@retra?
