If you'd like to see more about Boot 2025, there's now a video. You'll see a separate embedded video for the scuba part of the show. It lasts 2.20 seconds but I'm not sure it'll tell you much.... https://www.boot.com/en/Media_News/boot_Media/Videos_boot_2025?utm_source=boot25 besucher&utm_medium=email&utm_content=video&utm_campaign=vi en#impressionen

Dual Strobes with YS-D2 and Backscatter Hybrid?
TimG replied to hsakols's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
As Chris writes, it's much simpler to have two strobes the same. Unless there is an overwhelming reason to use one strobe in particular, I'd also recommend going with two the same. Much easier for muscle memory changes to the settings, less faffing about, not yet another set of batteries/o-rings/spares to deal with; and as Chris so rightly says, less Murphy's Law of having the wrong strobe on the wrong side at the wrong time. -
The annual German "Boot" show took place on 18-26 January. I visited on 25 January to see what might be new in the dive and underwater photography world and met up with other Waterpixelers. I was also tasked with tracking down the new unicorn of the underwater photography world, the Inon Z-xxx Boot is a massive show spread over 13 exhibition halls. It wouldn't be hard to spend a few million euros there - assuming you had them in the first place. Diving was maybe one and a half a halls with displays of wetsuits (lots of weird camouflage suits - what is that all about?) and posters showing muscled combat scuba divers, fast-roping from helicopters carrying waterproofed weapons. I'm yet to see one of one of my dive trips but who knows. Quite a few rebreather stands around as well plus the usual suspects, Scubapro, Cressi, SSI, PADI. Lots of resorts: Raja Ampat, Lembeh, Egypt etc etc. And, as always, a few sellers of the critical doo-dads that we all need: clips, hooks, fancy tags etc etc. Slightly disappointingly there wasn't so much to see from an u/w photo perspective: Nauticam, Seacam, Easydive and Divevolk either had a small stand or shared one with a distributor but that was pretty much it. Nauticam had their housing for the Nikon Z6III which, I thought , surprisingly big for such a small camera body. But, no, sorry, not a sniff of an Inon Z-xxx. It was very good though to meet up with three other members, Maria, Hans and Chris. One thing I did notice which might be of interest was the growing number of dive propulsion vehicles (DPVs) including some very cool tiny ones. I'm off to the Dutch dive show next Saturday and will report back from there too.

Good question. Happily I've never actually had to deal with the issue but understand entirely where you are coming from. The solution I developed for myself was to use two carabiners with detachable connectors (see photo). I clip a carabiner onto a D-ring on either side of the shoulder straps of my BCD; and the round snorkel retainers are fastened onto my strobe arms. If I need to free my hands, clipping the connectors together leaves my system (a D500 with Retra strobes) hanging from my BCD and reasonably manageable.

Guys, my suggestion is that we meet at the Seacam stand at 1600 on Saturday 25 January. Seacam are in Hall 12. Hope to see you there! Tim

Nikon Z6 and Tokina 10-17mm DX Fisheye Lens
TimG replied to dhaas's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
I've got the Nikon Z6II and the Nikkor 8-15. It works very well with the FTZ. No problems. Add the Kenko 1.4 and make sure you get the right version. I've got two DG and DGX Nikon Z6III + FTZ + Nikkor 8-15mm + "N-AF 1.4X TELEPLUS PRO 300 DGX Kenko" will not focus or find an aperture Nikon Z6III + FTZ + Nikkor 8-15mm + "1.4 TELEPLUS PRO 300 KENKO N-AF DG" works fine, will AF and finds the aperture -

David. I'm pretty sure the Nikkor 10.5 DX lens has the same problem as the Tokina: it won't work on the FTZ. -

The annual "Boot" show is in Dusseldorf on 18-26 January and the Dutch, Duikvaker show is in Houten on 1-2 February. Although Waterpixels isn't yet at a level where we might be exhibitors, I'm going to attend Boot on Saturday 25 January and Duikvaker on Saturday 1 February. If any members are going to going to attend on these days and would like to meet up, do let me know and we can work out a meeting time and place. I know Maria Munn will be at Boot. I'll post an article and pics after the shows. Will the Inon XXX be there??!?!?

I’m going to Boot so will keep an eye out. I don’t recall seeing Inon though on the list of manufacturers attending.
