Olympus 8mm which glass dome?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.. after years of service I’ve sold all of my Nauticam plastic dome ports 3.5 and 4.33 and I’m looking to upgrade to a glass dome in the next future.. still had my old oly EM1MK2…

Someone with M4/3 camera have used the zen dp100 n85 with the Olympus fisheye? I know it’s better than the Nauticam 140mm for CFWA… but it’s still good also for classic wide angle photography?

I know it needed 30mm extension ring, but I’ve also the 20mm extension in my rig.. it’s possible to mount the 8mm also with 20mm extension for more CFWA use?

I’m also evaluating the idea of adapting a tokina 10-17… if someone has done it, where you have find the correct zoom ring for that??

Sorry for the many questions….

Thanks!!

I used the Zuiko 8mm fisheye some time ago with Zen DP170 and Nauticm 140 domes. I belive also DP100 will work very good, but never used it by myself. Zuiko 8mm is a great and very sharp lens, but I soon exchanged it with adapted Canon 8-15mm and Tokina 10-17mm&0,71x speedbooster that provide also excellent IQ on MFT and offer more flexibility because of zoom...

My wife is using Tokina 10-17mm&0,71x speedbooster with Zen DP100 (the bare N120 version without extension) plus 20mm N120 extension with Oly EM1II. Zoom gear is from Nauticam.

This setup is not cheap, but incredibly compact and flexible and offers great IQ.

The setup requires a Nauticam N85/N120 34,7mm adapter, that is now discontinued (also Canon and Tokina are now discontinued, but are likely available second hand). I guess there are other Nauticam N85/N120 adapters available that can be used, in case the original is not available second hand, better ask at Nuticam which one might work...

There is a long tread about adapted fisheyes on MFT (including Tokina) in the old forum:

I used the Zen100 with the Panasonic 8mm fisheye it worked pretty well. This gallery was shot with the 8mm Panasonic and Zen DP100 dome- apart from 3 or 4 images. :

the 34.7mm has the advantage of working with the zoom knob on the adapter, it works but is a little slower than the housing zoom control when lenses are mated with the speedbooster version. You could also 3D print a gear to use with the housing zoom control.

The 34.7 is unfortunately discontinued. If you can't find a second hand one you should be fine using a 55mm N85-N120, but I expect the zoom control won't be positioned properly for the Nauticam zoom gear, so likely will need a 3D printed gear,

I use a custom 3D printed gear with my OM-1 and Canon 8-15. It would be a relatively simple matter to convert it to use on the Tokina lens. That system is very flexible, the Canon 8-15 is equivalent to an 8mm fisheye plus a 14-28mm FF equivalent rectilinear at least in terms of reach, very flexible setup that focuses down to the dome glass. I will say the rig gets rather heavy with the adapted Canon 8-15 and 140mm dome which I have. I expect the Tokina/Zen dome would be a bit lighter.
