Underwater Use of Prime Lenses
Tobyone replied to ridgebackpilot's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Hellhole , you pre focus. At f 8-11 you have a great depth of field. I focus at about 10-15 ft using peaking. I have sharp focus from about 1 ft from the dome to the edge of visibility. -

Underwater Use of Prime Lenses
Tobyone replied to ridgebackpilot's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
My favorite wide set up is the Loawa 9mm on aps Fuji. When you have fast action you don't want to complicate with focal length, pick a FOV and go with it. Shooting Whale Sharks or Sailfish. At f5.6- 11 you can zone focus. Here is a link to some photos : -
Check out Richard Wong review. Corners sharpen up at 8 and 11. Vignetting seems to be the main issue with this lens.
-
Laowa's upcoming 10 mm will have a FOV over(slightly) 130 degrees on a full frame. The lens is offered in auto focus with a Sony E-mount and Nikon z. There is a manual focus version for the Canon RF and L mount. This is a rectilinear lens priced at $799 US. Chest Frost's review on YouTube :

Just got my copy from Amazon $28 for hardcover. Excellent photos from a group of master u/w photographers. I personally do not like the way credits are in the back of book, they should be with the photos. Also sans of technical info. I will probably look for a month and pass it on.

Looks real good. Like how you shape string in the ID script.

I am interested in buying this Port . PM me with the info to pay via PayPal.

Looks good. Will try this concept on next gear project. I use petg for rigid parts. I used to use ABS, but it needed to be printed with vent.I

I also use MATTERHACKERS TPU "build series" at about $25/kilo. They do not have a shore harness rating yet, but I think it is firm enough for gears.
-
I use Matterhackers TPU PRO. It is not cheap $50/ pound. It has a shore(hardness) rating of 95A. I also us ColorFabb nGen flex. But it has bed adhesion problems. https://www.matterhackers.com/store/l/pro-series-tpu-thermoplastic-polyurethane-1lb/sk/MDLG8558

I print my gears by measuring the parameters I need. Lens barrel width, zoom or focus distance to housing drive gear and diameter to housing drive. You have to consider the ID of the port you are using. I design in Freecad and print with a firm but flexible tpu plastic. Sometimes I put a little split in the ring that can be tightened with a low profile zip tie. The example is a gear for a 7.5 mm Pergear fisheye for Fuji x mount for a Nauticam housing. The process usually takes me about 3 gear prints to dial it in.

Proven 3D printed Parts For Underwater Imaging
Tobyone replied to Davide DB's topic in Tutorials, How-Tos, DIY
here are a few of my 3d projects. Port for 3 & 4 inch domes. Gears, protective dome covers and caps. The most interesting is the dome port for the Osmo pocket. The bottom of housing is a Chinese housing I purchased online. The 3 inch dome has a + 4 diopter for the Osmo pocket. Works with anamorphic adapter. Link to test video. -

I have purchased used cameras from KEH and B&H with exceptional satisfaction . Just purchased a camera from MPB. Payed using PayPal. MPB is shipping to billing address not shipping address They would not let me corrective address or cancel the order. Bad business practice. The camera will now be delivered to a high porch theft area. If the camera is not delivered I will have to jump through many hoops to correct this Could have been easily corrected after chatting with minutes of placing order. I do not recommend MPB.

What is crab eating? Jellyfish, nuidi or?
Tobyone replied to Tobyone's topic in Critter Identification
The crab is about 40-50 mm across. I thought it look like a parrot fish in a night cocoon But the tentacles looking things confused me. -

One of the refugees from Wetpixel. Shot my first underwater photo in 1967 with an AquaCam. I have been a professional cameraman for over 50 years, still working and learning.
